Firefox 3.6 Release Candidate now available

Mozilla has dropped a Firefox 3.6 release candidate which you can download and install it now if you want to try the browser's latest and greatest. It's a big, significant update, including many bug fixes, built-in Persona support, fullscreen for open native video, and an improved automatic form fill. For developers, there's even more updates, including support for the HTML5 File API, and new features in CSS and DOM as well.

Despite the recent emergence of Chrome and the continuing popularity of Safari, Firefox remains my browser of choice. It's good to see that the latest release pushes the envelope. Of course, it's fine to wait for the official version, but if you want to get your hands on the new features right away, here's your chance. Firefox 3.6 Release Candidate is a free download as always.

3.6 is nice but I'm really looking forward to 3.7 because it will bring an async UI. This is important to me because I find the Firefox UI really laggy - it beachballs for a second or two whenever I open a new window and generally feels quite unresponsive. It makes Firefox feel far slower than it actually is.

it fails my youtube test. open up a youtube video in a second tab and then drag it off, if it reloads that tab, then it fails. But other than that, it seems pretty nice

I have been a faithful Safari user up until recently, appreciating the latest version and the new features that came with it. I have tried many other browsers over the years, because by my past work as a web site/database driven developer. It is disappointing to me to find out how much of a memory hog Safari is and is apparently the reason for its lack of speed and hangups (beachballing) of late on my MacBook. Granted, I only have a gig of RAM-I am mainly a couch surfer anymore-I don't want to shell out $50-100 for a memory upgrade to satisfy Safari's "hunger" for more RAM.
I love Chrome, it is very quick, but lacks bookmark management support. Camino is my current choice, but I would use Shiira if there was updated support and development (it also doesn't handle maps.google.com for some reason). However, for some reason Firefox has never remained my first choice for long.
Time to try it out again with this new release!

This new release is CRAZY FAST. I use Safari as my main browser, but this new release of FF is burns Safari. Try National Geographic's website and you'll notice the difference. Also another great indicator is emmawatson.com. This website is all flash and you notice the difference in speed BIG TIME when you surfing through the site. FF 3.6 kills Safari. I'm using OS X 10.6.2 in 64bit mode.

It's would be tough to run FF, while knowing that Safari runs noticeably faster...

Not really, I deleted Safari off of my iMac months ago. It might render slightly slower than safari, but it also doesn't crash every five minutes.
