Rumor: New iPhone by April

You TUAW readers came up with a long list of features for a possible iPhone 4.0, and now it turns out you might not even have to wait too long for a new revision. A few overseas providers of the iPhone have hinted that a brand new version of the handset could be coming out as soon as April of this year. Possible features this time include a video chat function, a removable battery, dual-core processors, and a better screen and camera (possibly with a flash feature, as we've heard before). That sounds like a lot of wishful thinking to us (I doubt we'll ever see an iPhone with a removable battery -- if Apple wanted to do so, they'd have already done it), but if not, that would be a pretty darn popular smartphone, and it would definitely answer the recent challenge of Google's Nexus One.

But of course as always, rumors are rumors, so we won't believe it until we see Steve Jobs holding it on stage, and you shouldn't either. But sources have long said that 2010 will be a year in which we'll see a new iPhone, and while April (or early May) seems earlier than we thought, you never know.

Yes, the removable battery will be a fact or Apple loses the right to sell their phones in Europe because of environmental and waste laws. Europe obliges to separate the battery from any device.

@Ladanada1 - We share the same thought. Its like like the usual mobile phones that you can use your spare battery for your iPhone when its battery drains and low bat.

Adding a built-in miniature projector and 5 megapixel (or better) built-in camera would be ideal for the next iPhone. That would be about the only way I would consider selling my current phone and iPod touch to get an iPhone and contract.

I don't expect a miracle with any original implementation of a miniature projector, but I'd hope the iPhone OS would eventually allow flexible use of it so that the device could be truly mobile (i.e., fits in one hand, is operated by the other, fits in a pocket as the iPhone/iPod does, and can project a respectable size screen without the annoyance of having to carry it in a special case when not in use and the annoyance to have to sit down and set up a space for it when using it).

NO WAY they release this in april. Are you kidding me?? One of the worst rumors ever. If they release the tablet in March, why would they release a new iPhone in april. That makes zero sense from a marketing perspective. Are we just publishing every little rumor now?
