Finally! A way to easily view MobileMe galleries from your iPhone
Well, that took a while. Ever since the iPhone appeared, it's been a pain to view your photo and video galleries on MobileMe from your iPhone or iPod touch. Sure, you could use Safari, but it was a clunky and slow process. With Apple connecting just about everything to everything else these days, not being able to easily view MobileMe galleries from an iPhone seemed like a pretty big omission.
Now, that problem has been solved. Apple has just released a free app for MobileMe users called, appropriately enough, MobileMe Gallery [iTunes link].
Among the features of MobileMe Gallery:
- View your entire gallery including password protected and hidden albums
- Flick through photos, and pinch and zoom
- Get a landscape view by rotating the phone
- View friends galleries
- View photos you've already accessed when you are offline
- Send a gallery link to friends directly from the iPhone
Apple, what took you so long? This is a nice little app. Go get it.
Thanks to Sebastiaan for the tip

It tells me my videos "can't be played on this device."
Ummm, it's an iPhone and this is an iPhone app. What's the deal?
Yeah, mine don't play either. But that is probably because they are AVI files. I assume if I convert they to QT or mpeg4 they will probably play just fine on the iPhone.

January 14 2010 at 7:49 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replyall my albums have an error ... couldn't load album .... an unexpected error occurred. (100)
it looks like my web galleries are total F**** U* since i also can't load any album in iWeb anymore and Apple is working already more then 2 weeks on it ...
How does that relate to this article?
January 14 2010 at 6:26 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replybecause i get this error for some off my web galleries in this application and apple told me this some other customer have the same issues ...
January 14 2010 at 7:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyNice. Now if only they would boost the speed of MobileMe. Oh, and give us back '.mac' as an option for our email address. I still say that '.me' sounds like someone on an ego trip.
January 14 2010 at 4:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyAppleZilla, actually, I never changed my email address. It is still @mac.com. Unless you created your email account AFTER the introduction of me.com, you should still be able to receive email at your old @mac.com address. Cheers!

Visiting a MobileMe Gallery on Mobile Safari has redirected to an iPhone-optimized page for a long time. Probably a year, if not longer. As far as the sheer viewing experience goes, this app mostly adds adjustable offline caching and that slick "latest images" bar above a user's main gallery page.
Yes, it also acts as more of a dashboard for your friends' MobileMe Gallery pages, and it lets you view private and hidden galleries. This is all pretty cool. But as far as just the gallery viewing experience goes, the iPhone-optimized Mobile Safari pages have been quite handy.
Why is that snarky diatribes pass for news on the Web and at this site in particular? Do we really need to know that this reporter, in his own humble opinion, is both smarter than AT&T and his former employer as well? Is hostile speculation and conjecture as to AT&T's motives a value added proposition in the reporting of this story?

Open 1Password, then go to the record for TUAW.com and you'll see the comment in there somewhere. Delete and save.
For what it's worth, that comment can be applied to most of the posts on this site anyway.
@ Fred, My brother and his girlfriend lost their cabin in that fire.
On to brighter stuff. This app is pretty telling of what is going to come in the future. I believe that iPhone 4.0 is going to bring about not just multitasking but multitasking with a side of spaces to go with it.

Bah, it requires 3.1, no thanks!
January 14 2010 at 4:00 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhy are you not on 3.1? It's not to keep a jailbreak, so I must know.
