Rumor: Apple to announce Verizon iPhone on the 27th

A tablet still might not be the only new hardware we see from Apple next week -- the rumor mill is still churning out news that the "one more thing" next week will be a brand new version of the iPhone, set up on the Verizon network. Obviously we've heard a lot about this one before, but this time it comes not from an anonymous source, but Canaccord Adams analyst Peter Misek, who says that not only will we see the new hardware as expected, but we'll have those nice red maps on it as soon as June of this year.

If you ask me, this is one too many rumors not to be true -- eventually, we'll see an iPhone on the Verizon network. But I'm hesitant to agree it'll be announced as early as next week. This is a big deal with a lot of tangles, and I doubt Apple wants to rush it out the door, especially with the much more likely tablet incoming. I do believe we'll see a new version of the iPhone, and it will be Verizon, but Apple's got time. I'm guessing we won't see an official announcement until later on this year.

I had AT&T for YEARs...was NEVER satified dure to dropped calls on dailly occasions...this was years ago and I switched to Verizon, whom I've NEVER had a dropped call or problem with. I wanted the Droid because they said it was the closest version of the iPhone...well, hardly. AT&T could onlly benefit financiall by incorporating the IPHONe to another strong competitive network...Most verizon customers, including myself would trade whatever phone they currently have for the IPHONE...so its a win win for AT&T....why such an issue for AT&T customers? Blackberry's are available with all networks and that was the top phone for years...Lets be fair to all services...We deserve a chance, as loyal customers to Verizon to prove that we would be as loyal to Apple and purchase their phone as most customers of many networks...Apple would be the one to gain here and if they lose customers from AT&T then that is just silly and childish...The exceed in sales from Verizon or possibly several other networks would far exceed the loss they may or may not induce from the angry, petty, selfish AT&T CUSTOMERS.jUST ANOTHER ADVANTAGE FOR APPLE TO INCREASE SALES....ANYONE WHO CLAIMS THAT MY OPINION MAKES NO SENSE IS MERELY AN AT&T CUSTOMER WHOM LIKES TO BRAG THAT THEY ARE THE ONLY ONES WHOM ARE ABLE TO BENEFIT FROM THIS FABULOUS PHONE TECHNOLOGY...APPLE...THIS IS YOUR PHONE, DO WITH IT AS YOU LIKE AND CONSIDER YOUR PROFIT GAIN, THE MINOR LOSS OF POOR SPORT CUSTOMERS WOULD NOT EVEN COMPARE TO THE FINANCIAL GAIN IF OFFERED TO VERIZON...(OR POSSIBLY OTHER POPULAR NETWORKS.)
THIS IS MY OPINION, yet I am a highlly intelligent, educated person with a tremendlous carreer.......THANKS FOR THE OPPORTUNITY TO VOICE A SENSIBLE SOLUTION FOR ALL OF US.
THINK SMART.

I agree that iPhone on Verizon is inevitable. But I can't see an announcement now, six months before it will be available.

I've stood in line twice for iPhones and both times, 75 percent of the folks near me in line were Verizon customers switching to AT&T to get the iPhone.

How many sales in the near-term will Apple lose by announcing, essentially, that people ought to wait six months before buying their iPhone.

I believe they might even announce a new iPhone on the 27th. But don't count on an announcement of Verizon, unless its availability is within the next 60 days.

I have no plans to ever go to verizon. Verizon phones don't work in my house. On top of that, an Iphone to Verizon announcement would mean nothing, because everyone that has bought the iphone 3gs or the iteration before are still under contract. There is no way I would pay the 175 early termination fee on top of another 300 for the phone.

There is no way Apple is going to invest their time and money in CDMA version of the iPhone since it might not work all over the world with just one design/model hence the GSM route.

Say all you can to raise Apple and Verizon's stock but that ain't gonna happen people...

I verizon iPhone at this time would make sense because obviously most iPhone users don't like at&t and this means that the iPhone exclusivity ran out at the end of 2009 and so apple would want to add more customers as soon as possible

While I hate ATT's lack of coverage, one thing that iISA big plus is the ability for simultaneous voice and data use. Many missed calls while emails being pushed to the phone. Was the problem with EDGE. I didn't know that Verizon lacked this ability. So while ATT has dropped calls, Verizon will have many missed calls.

I think we're more likely to see Apple casually announce the iPhone coming to Verizon "later this year".

Does this mean that an unlocked iphone could work with Sprint? [that would be awesome]

Matthew, that's what I'm hoping for too - an unlocked iPhone that can be used on the Sprint network.

As soon as Verizon gets the iPhone, I'm getting one! I have a Blackberry Storm with them right now that I hate and would love to dump. I'll never go to AT&T, so a Verizon iPhone will be just great! (I wonder how many Droids will appear on eBay the day after)
