Apple has scheduled internal town hall-style iPad meeting
Just a day after the iPad's introduction, MacNN reports that Apple has scheduled an internal, town hall-style meeting for employees regarding the iPad. Details of the meeting's agenda are unknown to us outside of Apple, but it's a safe guess that attendees will receive a thorough overview of the device, both in function and philosophy, perhaps iPads themselves and a clear sense of what Steve Jobs called "the most important thing I've ever done."Shortly after the iPhone was introduced, a similar internal meeting was scheduled. At that gathering, employees supposedly received iPhones and asked questions of Steve. One attendee famously asked about the simultaneous existence of the iPhone and iPod, to which Steve said that if some company was going to cannibalize their sales, it might as well be Apple.
Certainly meetings like these inform employees but also generate precious word-of-mouth. Apple is obviously deadly serious about the device and we're looking forward to its appearance on store shelves.

It was alleged that Steve Jobs called the iPad "the most important thing I've ever done." Someone may have made up that quote to create a narrative about the iPad. There had never been any confirmation that Steve Jobs ever uttered such a thing.

The iPad was running OS 3.2 but isn't OS 4 is due in a couple of months? Won't that include missing features like multitasking? I don't really care about no flash support, but then again I hate flash with a passion. I think of it as a built in ad blocker. We don't have hulu here in Canada. ;) And no camera? Besides using a camera to video conference (which I hate doing anyway) do people actually want to create content on a device like this? I'd like to see some idiot carrying it on the street taking photographs and video - oh that's right, my iPhone can already do that. This is supposed to be a complimentary device not an alternative.
I see a lot of great potential for the iPad. I can't wait to get my hands on one. It's going to be the perfect device to download and view my photos and videos on, casually write blog posts, play awesome games, read War of the Worlds for the 6th time and catch up with my favorite blogs. Steve, great job - I can see where you're going with this.
I certainly hope as a result of the media and public response, as well as internal comments coming from said "meetings" that SJ and crew make some last minute revisions to the software and capabilities.
I'm afraid it's too late for hardware adjustments, such as mag-safe power connector, HDMI output, USB, webcam, etc. But one can at least hope the UI will be polished a little more in the meantime.
I love Apple, have had every iPhone since launch and several laptops and desktops, but found myself somewhat disappointed yesterday after the reveal. I really wanted something to replace my laptop, or at least augment it enough that I could perhaps forgo a new laptop and just do a tablet and desktop combination. I'm fine with the processor and internal memory, as most of my media is stored on a networked drive through my Airport Extreme.
*sigh*
Maybe I'll have to wait for v2...
miniDisplayPort and Magsafe connectors are more suited to Power-user devices.
Low-power devices like iPhones and the iPad are more suited to the Dock-Connector power supply.
The Magsafe Hardware and Circuit board are much more expensive and complicated, compared to the Dock Connector.
mini-DisplayPort also loosed the advantage in low-power-consumption hardware.
I think iPad-like features, such as Cocoa Touch UI are likely to be available in MacBook Pro's soon anyway.
I hope someone in the meeting says, "We got a lot of feedback that there was no webcam built-in. I think we need to add it before launch." if it is a meeting for employees getting a free one, awesome. I was with them when I got my free iPhone 2G from Summer Santa Steve.

That means anywhere else on the planet, you will have a choice of at least 2 different carriers (here in Australia, we'd have the choice of 4 majors and a few minors), but in the US, you have the Choice of AT&T or AT&T.
A lot of the missing software features will handled by the development community. Apple has pretty much left this device wide open for improvement.
Things such as:
* Text highlighting
* Dictionary
* Notes (such as in the margins of a book)
I look forward to getting my hands on the $499 version. I already have an iPhone 3GS so that takes care of my 'connect anywhere' needs.
One app I can't wait to use with this app is Jaadu. I connect to my iMac at home all the time and having more screen real estate is going to be great. I only hope that I can tether my iPhone 3G data to the iPad. If not I may finally, after 3 1/2 years, jailbreak my iPhone (& likely the iPad too) so I can use the tethering feature I was promised.
Nice to hear they'll be serious about making the iPad a success in this meeting, seeing as they sure as hell weren't yesterday.

A huge selling point for me on buying my first Mac was the idea that I'd be able to focus on one task at a time if I so desired. (Pages fullscreen mode is a nice example of this.)
I figure Apple either puts a ridiculous amount of thought into everything that does (and doesn't) go into their designs, or it's all based on some really, embarrassingly simple design philosophy mantra, such as "Less is more."
I'd rather it be a really complicated mantra. More interesting that way. ;)
