iPhone OS 3.2 supports video calling, file downloads, SMS and...multitasking?

Engadget's sources said there are hooks to accept and decline a video conference, flip a video feed (which suggests a front-facing camera) and -- most importantly -- run the video call in either full screen mode or in just a portion of the screen. Video calling in just part of the screen (the other part left open for other apps) would be indicative of some basic type of multitasking.
Engadget also confirms that "iPhone OS 3.2 supports file downloads and local storage in the browser, which means you'll be able to pull files off the web and use them in other apps, and there's at least the beginnings of SMS support buried within the code."
While our sister site is quick to point out that it's not sure if any of the code will ever be implemented, they're starting to get the feeling that Apple didn't tell everything there is to know about their latest creation...

Hey, so weird off topic-is question... does anyone know how to add additional applications to the simulator. Right now all I have is contacts and settings.
Thanks in advance.

Every netbook I've seen can send SMS messages, mainly because they all have a GSM number. Doesn't matter if it's just for data.

Enough to get the developer community started on native iPad apps, but not intended to be used for very long. The iPad won't ship until late March (WiFi)/late Apr (3G), and by then we'll probably only be about 2-3 months off the release of iPhoneOS 4.0, which I assume will run on iPad/iPhone/iPod touch.
4.0 will be a big overhaul and will likely have all sorts of new things, e.g. at least some form of multi-tasking seems very likely (though perhaps only on the iPad and most recent model iPhone/touch). I sure hope it doesn't slip...
And of course there will be new iPhone (and perhaps iPod touch) hardware released then too.
Please someone tell me OS 3.2 has CardDAV support. C'mon Apple, where's the Snow Leopard Server support?

Apple made such a huge deal about the screen at this announcement that they just might be waiting to blow people away and are not showing all the cards.
There might just be a 'one more thing' moment around release time. The patent in question can be located here and was issued in 2006.

The original text of the article only references the application for the patent.
The patent was awarded to Apple in May 19, 2009 and can be found at the USPTO with the following patent # 7,535,468
I'm hoping the next iPhone has at least 1 of these.
Which would you like to see?
A front lens.
Two lens... front and back.
A switch that flips a tiny mirror than faces the lens front or back.
A pivoting lens that rotates 180 for front/back/middle.
The last idea has all kinds of possibilities:
Take pictures/video just by setting the iphone into any stand, or even laying flat on a desk... with the lens pivoted up towards your face.
(No need to try to hold your camera steady... and arms length... during a 30 mins video-chat.)
I REALLY hope the iPhone never gets 'real multitasking'.
It will just encourage "dead batteries" and "slower devices" and "virus running the background".
The iphone can *ALREADY* communicate with users... from apps that are NOT even running.
"Push notification" is MUCH better than "multitasking".
"Multitasking" is so 1985'ish.
1) Shouldn't that "iPhone Simulator" say "iPad Simulator"? Aren't they separate applications?
2) Where are the close, minimize and zoom buttons on that title bar? If that was iPad or iPhone Simulator, it would either have those buttons or not have a title bar, I'd think. (iPhone Simulator doesn't have one, but I don't know about iPad Simulator.)
"Video calling in just part of the screen ... would be indicative of some basic type of multitasking"
iPhone OS has always supported multitasking. It just isn't available to 3rd party developers. What you mean is that the feature hints at non-exclusive screen control.
Pedantic aside, I think its more likely to be the difference between showing the video at its native resolution or scaling it up to the full screen - just like the iphone apps.
