iPhone dev to make an app in one week -- live on the web

It sounds like the premise for a new reality show -- a developer writes an iPhone app in one week while the world watches.

That's exactly what Sahil Lavingia is planning to do starting on Sunday, February 7th. Lavingia is the developer behind Color Stream and the Twizzle Twitter client [iTunes Links], and he'll be posting updates to keep us all apprised of his progress at his One Week App blog.

On the blog, Lavingia will be posting screenshots of his coding, timelapse movies (sorry, no streaming video of Lavingia at work), and other notes about his work as he moves forward. Lavingia is a realist -- he knows that he could create an amazing new app, or he could fail to finish his work in the allotted time. We don't know what he's planning on coding, either. Perhaps it will be a game, maybe a design tool, or something else altogether.

If you are fascinated with what happens behind the scenes in the app development process, be sure to follow Lavingia's one week app experiment.

Nifty Idea, but why is it a choice between

1) Not finishing it
and
2) An amazing new iphone app.

When in all likelihood it will be yet another basic iphone app.

My todo list app ItemsDue was written in 48 hours while commuting to work on the train. I don't see what's so special for an app to be written over several days. Doing an app in 24 hours and streaming the video out would amaze me.

There's an idea for a TUAW contest. Code an app in 24 hours non-stop for the iPhone.

Neat idea, but the "Developing an iPhone App in a Week" idea has already been done. But I think I would still watch this one just to see what happens.

The best thing about that one was that Jonathan Badeen was in it. That guy is pimp.

. . . and Aaron Hillegass as well. The guy knows his Cocoa and is a pretty interesting guy.

I can cook you dinner in 45 seconds, as long as you're ok with a microwave hot dog.

One week is a long time for an app..

What a downer it's gonna be when, at the end of all this, Apple rejects the app for some completely arbitrary reason.

Word of the Day from Code Driven (one guy) was created in less than one week, and it doesn't suck.

I'm sure there are tons of apps that fall into this category.

What's special about that? A lot of folks can make an app in a week.

I would love to be able to write one to help my disable son communicate but I am not a developer by any means. I will be glad to share
my ideas with anyone that think they can create one.

I can make one in one day. It would just suck real bad or not have much use.
