Analysts see iPhone remaining exclusive to AT&T, spurring sales of anti-depressants

Those among you hoping for an impending dissolution of AT&T's exclusive hold (or testicular constriction, if you will) on the iPhone may want to sit down before reading the following words. According to AppleInsider, two separate analysts are making similar predictions that the iPhone will remain shackled to AT&T's network, offering the iPad-AT&T partnership as evidence. It's ok, I wept too.

Vijay Jayant, of Barclays Capital, was quoted as saying "(The) launch of Apple's iPad on AT&T's network is a vote of confidence in AT&T's network by the equipment maker." I don't know which part of that statement I find more shocking and disturbing. The possibility of his prediction being accurate, or the notion that someone has confidence in AT&T's network? That's infreakingsane! Jayant, however, sees this pact lasting only through the remainder of 2010, as do the folks at Credit Suisse who echoed similar projections last week. I suppose we can hold out hope for another 10 months.

Personally, I'm going to deny this rumor exists in hopes of preventing its materialization. I cast thee out, demon, and unhear your blasphemy!

The US has AT&T and T-mobile...they use different GSM...AT&T is on the same as the rest of the world where as T-mobile is not. This is why T-mobile cannot get the iPhone here in the US. I've had AT&T for almost 13 years and very few problems and always have signal with the best 3G.

So, are these the same analysts that said the AT&T agreement was ending? Where can I sign up to be an analysts? Seems to be a pretty cushy job. and if something you said doesn't happen, you can say you knew it all along. Brilliant!

AT&Ts service actually has very good coverage here in the metro Cincinnati (except in deep, out of the way rural areas) and I rarely get dropped calls. Mainly this is thanks to Cincinnati Bell here who built allot of cell towers in the area several years ago and AT&T here uses the same towers as Cincinnati Bell.

Only two carriers I wouldn't recommend here is Sprint (coverage in Cincinnati is HORRIBLE, I can barely get a 2-3 bar signal and I live 3 miles from the airport) and T-Mobile (spotty coverage and my friend has it and has many issues with dropped calls).

Basically, the jest of it is that in some way or another, ALL cell carriers have their major issues, and their different in different areas.

But, I personally don't understand why the US is one of the few major countries left that the iPhone hasn't gone to multiple carriers. I would see this helping Apple as a whole with having more customers able to buy the iPhone.

That corner you're painting yourself into is getting smaller and smaller, isn't it, iSteve? Remember Microchannel architecture, and how IBM was so successf...oh, wait a minute, never mind.

I got my iPhone through Fido. Rogers, Bell and Telus all carry it here in Canada.

Hardly exclusive to AT&T.

Unless of course you're talking about the first generation iPhone, yes, that was exclusive to AT&T.

Oh wait, maybe you were only talking about the iPhone in america? The rest of the world has the iPhone now.

I really don't understand the hatred for ATT. It is well documented that the problems that ATT has encountered would be similar and probably worse on other networks due to volume of both devices and data. I visit this site infrequently, but I love Apple products, and truly believe they did all due diligence, and continue to do so, and have found that ATTs network is the best for their needs. period

I don't own an iPhone, yet (economics on my part, not Apple/AT&T).

But I have a friend who has one and a person next to me at my local grocery store had one and knowing ALL the complaints I've read regarding AT&T service I had to ask them... Have you had problems with your Apple iPhone on AT&T's network? Dropped calls? Low Bars? Poor reception? Not so great 3G coverage?

Both of them replied no problems and that AT&T works well for them. So add Southeastern Virginia and North Eastern North Carolina to the "No problem with AT&T" column!

For me personally, I get excellant AT&T coverage where I live (45 mins. Outside Chicago). Before my iPhone I had Nextel/Sprint and could not get a signal while in my house. I've never had a phone on Verizon so I can't really compare those two. So I am fine with Apple staying with AT&T. I know my bill is a bit more expensive then others but I don't mind paying a little more to have the best phone. With that being said I would like Apple to add another carrier so that all my friends that just won't sign with AT&T could have an iPhone.

The whole AT&T sucks strikes me as very similar to Vista sucks, the reality is that neither are bad sure there is a vocal minority but the reality is that they do what they do well the vast majority of the time.

I support Windows PCs and I can't tell you the number of people that have/had Vista and just complain up the walls about it, yet when pressed for specific issues none can be pinpointed. Windows is Windows regardless of the name it carries.

AT&T is AT&T, for me it works.
