iPad pre-orders overwhelm Norwegian stores
Who's got low expectations for the iPad? Not the Norwegians, as one local store can't keep up with pre-orders.Late last week, retailer Eplehuset (Apple House) suspended pre-orders all together when they sold out. A message posted to their site states that those who have already placed orders will have their spot in line reserved, while others are out of luck. "We have chosen not to receive more pre-orders for now," the site says via Google Translate, "we will contact you as soon as we know anything more."
Additionally, iPod1 reports that retailer Humac has suspended iPad pre-orders. We don't have any stats on which model is being ordered most often, but Electronista suggests that it's the 64GB iPad with 3G model. It's also notable that most countries aren't offering pre-orders yet (including Apple itself in the US), so there's no way to gauge if the Norwegian customers' enthusiasm is typical.
While e-readers like the Nook and Kindle generated a lot of pre-release buzz, tablet computers historically haven't sparked a blaze of enthusiasm in the wider market. If these retailers' experiences turn out to be typical, Apple will have a real hit on their hands (and in ours) with the iPad.

I'm not surprised. I think the iPad is going to be a massive hit for Apple.

well it serves them right for allowing pre-oders when Apple hasn't released international prices for the iPad yet. I think buying an ipad from anywhere other than apple given that you can't even pre-order it form apple is for stupid people who want to get ripped off!!

how the hell are they offering pre orders? I highly doubt that apple has given them ANY real confirmation about ship date, availability, or even final specs.
I doubt this is legit.

The pre-order isn't binding though, so it isn't that big of a deal, you can sign up even if you're not even sure you want it.

Why couldn't this be legit? J&R (US based retailer) could offer pre-orders right now and I I would have no problem trusting them. There are lots of Authorized Apple resellers out there and this is the first competitive advantage Apple has given them in a while. They should all be taking pre-orders.

You are right. This is legit. Eplehuset (The Apple House) is Norways biggest and most trusted Apple Premium Retailer.

Norwegians always get proud if somebody outside the border mentions them:)
You should write at article on how Apple needs to build an Apple Store in Norway:)

When all of Norway's Apple retailers are closing preorders is a pretty big sign. We Norwegians aren't anything like you Americans, or even british. Apple has nowhere near the Market share in Norway compared to Apple's "core" countries, not to mention that Norway's prices on electronics are through the roof. Still, this Apple-hostile land manages to sell out all their iPads in a few weeks. Imagine the same craze on a worldwide stage. Ask me, and I'd say it's the calm before the storm

Lets put it this was any reseller that even advertised the iPad in the UK got told to pull it with in the hour, Apple wont let any one advertise, give pre-orders as its against most of the T&C's in the contracts they sign

I work at Humac in Denmark and we still take preorders but we do not have the final price, so customers are not obligated to buy it when it arives..

Looks like there's an iPad frenzy going on in Europe. I understand some people's lack of interest in the iPad at this time due to some issues, but the potential is there for Apple to "corner" the tablet market eventually.
