Google Buzz now available on iPhone web app

Google revealed its new social communications feature Buzz yesterday while we were all traveling to Macworld, and the new service is now up and running in the Mobile Safari web app, as well as in your Gmail account everywhere else. The mobile app has all the features of the main service (it's kind of like a mix between Twitter and Google Wave, where you can post status updates and media in an ongoing conversation) with some interesting mobile features, including the option to see "buzz" nearby while out and about, as well as comment on or 'like' other people's "buzz."

The whole thing is still pretty new, and as you've probably seen around the rest of the 'net, there's lots and lots of people discussing how this might work alongside (or in spite of) Twitter and all of the other growing social networks out there. Time will tell whether or not the system will be a hit (or fizzle like Wave apparently did), but Google definitely made sure that the iPhone has full capability up and running right away, even if the Apple/Google relationship isn't what it used to be.

As someone who, for privacy and battery life reasons, only turns location service on on my iPhone when need for a map application, and as someone who practically lives in Google Reader on both desktop and iPhone, the iPhone implementation of Buzz sucks.

I'm trying to read my feeds in Reader/Safari and get interrupted every 5 seconds with a request to turn my location services on.

I consider my most used mobile site/app broken.

Seems to over-invent the wheel. And it is sort of stuck in the concept of social networking as a form of corporate intra-net collaboration. Where everyone is sitting in an open plan office space collaborating on design projects or something. I think that most social networks actually offer a lot more independence than that.

I use Gmail through a mail client exclusively. I think a lot of other people do also, so in order to use Buzz (or Wave or whatever) I would have to change the way I use Gmail. Since all my organization is based on using Gmail through a mail client, I am not likely to do that so I am not likely to use Buzz.

So... Google owned Dodgeball, I think? It fizzled. Four Square seems to be a pretty big hit from the ashes, and now Google is rolling their own again?

This just in, Google buys BrightKite...
Or something like that.

This seems more like a dumbed down version of Wave. The interface is lacking and boring, there doesn't seem to be much customization to it. Another flop by Google, but hey they can afford it and are atleast trying to explore new ideas...

I don't like it at all. They really need to make an actual app. And yes they need to let you use another identity rather than your gmail account, which I hate my username and everything else is taken.

It is running as a Web app in Safari, but it's not listed (yet) in my GMail account on my computer. :(

Other than the main search page, I'm not a fan of Google products but how can you say that Wave is a flop? It's still pretty new and these types of things take time to build momentum.

The media is just startng to get a clue about Twitter and it's into it's second year. Isn't it a bit early to say Wave is dead?
