Analysis: U.S. pre-orders for Wi-Fi iPad likely to begin this week

If you're ready to buy that Wi-Fi iPad, then get your credit card out of your wallet and start practicing your fastest clicking and typing techniques. According to a rumor on iPad / iPhone site AppAdvice, a "reliable source" has told them that Apple will begin pre-sales of the Wi-Fi iPad as soon as Thursday, February 25.

As noted on 9 to 5 Mac, Apple traditionally begins selling new products like iPhones or iPods on Fridays. The closest Friday that is approximately 60 days after the iPad announcement on January 27th is March 26th, 2010. If Apple decides to take pre-sale orders of the device online for express delivery on March 26th, they would probably do this about a month in advance in order to better judge the demand for the product.

The iPad must pass muster with the FCC before it can be offered for sale in the U.S., so if this rumor is true we'd expect to see the device approval sometime in the next week. The 3G model, which will be offered about a month after the Wi-Fi version, will require separate approval due to the inclusion of a cellular modem in the device.

I almost always pre-order...have gotten all my iPhones without having to wait in line...my 3GS arrived at something like 9am the day they started selling them. I'll be ordering a few iPads the moment they become available.

Boy, I hope everyone is telling the truth here, that everyone is not buying one, NO lines for me.I am DEFINITELY getting em I know I will be there bright and early (2nd /3rd Gen iPhone) I will be getting 2 with just wifi and adding a MIFI pod for 3g connection. Hope to not see anyone on line :)

There are either going to be a lot of happy people this Thursday, or a lot of sad people. It seems like there is only one source for the rumor that most if not all of the related articles are quoting. I hope it's true, but I feel i don't want to get my hopes up too much at this point.

I usually pass on first generation ANYthing, but this time, I'll swallow the goddam hook.

I WANT me one-a them iPads... BAD!

I decided to pass on the 3G, since I live in NYC and there's a Starbucks with wi-fi (and a bathroom) on every corner.

Got my iPhone 3GS via mail on release day as I had pre-ordered.

The only problem with ordering from the online store is that you can't return to a retail store in case of issues.

If you want the iPad on the day of release do not pre-order it unless you have no alternative. Apple never delivers pre-orders on time I've pre-ordered stuff from apple 3 times and every time did not get the product till 1 to 2 weeks after release. So if you can go to an apple store to get your iPad.
