TaskPaper for iPhone, simplified to-do lists go mobile

TaskPaper, from the developer of WriteRoom, has been around for a while, and we've been talking about it since version 1.0. After what seems like a long wait, TaskPaper for iPhone is out. The super-simple to-do list with surprisingly robust capabilities is now mobile, and syncs with the desktop version (through Simpletext.ws) for a complete task management solution.

The interesting aspect of TaskPaper is that it uses plain text files with minimal formatting to create and manage to-do lists. The file is easily read by other applications, and things such as tags and due dates are handled in a very human-readable format. The iPhone version offers the functionality of the desktop version, and the two work together quite well. Current users of TaskPaper on the desktop should note the format changes in TaskPaper files.

TaskPaper costs $29.99US for the desktop version. At $4.99US, the iPhone version makes a great counterpart and a very useful addition to your productivity toolset.

Not to be rude or anything, but the iPhone app has been out for some time.

Yeah, I realize that, but so have I (been out for some time). It didn't get picked up on release day, and then that whole Macworld thing was going on… I figured better late than never, right?

I didn't make it easy for news sites this time around. Normally I would send off a press release at launch time. But the iTunes launch caught me just as I was headed camping for four days. So I missed the release, and then have been trying to handle support. And in the end I never did send off any press releases.

TaskPaper simply works. After trying OmniFocus, Things, and even looking at the Hit List, I settled on TaskPaper on the Mac. It's the closest to a paper-and-pen solution.

Now with the iPhone app, it's brilliant. The sync is flawless and fast, even in a non-3G setting such as my town.

TaskPaper now not only occupies a place on my first screen, but also holds the no. 1 icon. I use it all the time.

PS — Apologies for the previous post.

How do I get the Taskpaper desktop client to write out to simpletext.ws? I downloaded the SimpleText client app, which is supposed to do that, but double-clicking the app (in /Applications folder) results in absolutely nothing at all happening, so I think something's amiss.

@Jon Running SimpleText should create a menu item in your menubar, and clicking on it should allow you to open your SimpleText folder. Save your TaskPaper files there, and they'll be synced to your SimpleText account (and the TaskPaper iPhone app, once you've signed in) automatically.

I'm not a fan of the icon...seriously? It looks like "TV" I understand the T stands for Task and the check mark...but if you glance quickly it doesn't look good.
