Rumor: Best Buy sticks Core i7 logo on MacBook Pro page

When you're waiting so intently for something you know is just around the corner, even the slightest sign of a hint at the new arrival is worth a bit of excitement.

Today's moment of thrill (which is almost certainly just a website error, but you never know), courtesy of tipster Zach, is the appearance of a Core i7 badge on the Best Buy page for the 2.53Ghz 15" MacBook Pro. Other models are still showing the correct (as of this moment) Core 2 Duo badge, so there you go.

The appearance of new MacBook Pros has been on the rumor radar for months now, including a fairly specific report that's now more than 60 days overdue and a benchmark sighting recently. At this point, it's a race to see whether the new MBPs or the iPad will ship first.

well the way I see the upgrading to i7 processors is a great idea

but as I tell my customers...the macs don't really need it...because the PC's that are running the "i" processors need the jump in power to make them close to the power of the macs

because running antivirus software all the time like you have to on a PC makes it run the speed you already get from a Mac because it doesn’t have that constant CPU hog of AV software...just the way I see it

may be wrong...it isn't the first time and won't be the last...lol

I just checked at 10:35 PST, 3/7/10, the MBP on Best Buy still has the Core i7 badge. It is on the one price at $1,699.99. But of course the description still says Intel® Core™2 Duo processor.

Apple® - MacBook® Pro with 15.4" Display - Aluminum
Model: MC118LL/A | SKU: 9375142 - $1,699.99

http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Apple%26%23174%3B+-+MacBook%26%23174%3B+Pro+with+15.4%22+Display+-+Aluminum/9375142.p?id=1218093608316&skuId=9375142

Definitely something is brewing in the interworkings. Perhaps some of those random sku's in the best buy system are now labeled?

Its a false alarm most windows pc even with cellerons are showing intel core i7. They mixed up the intel core 2 duo with the i7. I even checked.

Let Me say this again False Alarm

Charli, MBP's run at about a 200 day refresh cycle and it's been 272 days since the last update. So odds are for a sooner rather than later drop-date.

This is a really useful link:

I suspect they're holding the MBP's back so as not to take the shine off the iPad. That would kinda make the MBP drop date April 6 at the earliest - but I hope not.

The i7 has a low-powered Intel integrated GPU but in the MBP will be running an automatic switch to an NVidia GPU when performance is needed or mains power is available. This should boost the battery life in addition to the i7 CPU improvements.

Charli

the last laptop update was in June and since they run on a roughly year cycle with those, that's likely when the next one will be.

so i don't think that it's a matter of outshining but perhaps more a case of they are using all possible production lines to make ipads right now, since they know that everyone is talking laptop refresh and back to school and are waiting anyway.

and I highly doubt that Best Buy would get info that hasn't been posted on apple.com. I call BS on this.
