iPad fever: What didja get?

With iPad preorders finally available, at least for USians, I was relieved to place my order for an 16 GB iPad, due to be delivered on or after April 3rd.

Along with a bluetooth keyboard (which I've been meaning to pick up for some time now), a case, and taxes, the whole kit & kaboodle came to about $650 for me.

I declined AppleCare for the moment, and am now feeling a little conflicted. At $99 for two years of coverage, it seemed a little steep. However, AppleCare has saved me in the past; it's something I've meant to buy on less robust items and earlier technology. I'm probably going to end up adding it on, although please feel free to convince me otherwise in the comments.

I kept with my decision to go with the 16GB unit for now. I may end up passing the unit along to family once I'm ready to upgrade to a better system, but I do need a unit as soon as possible for work. Out of the accessories on offer, I felt that the case was going to be really handy for day-to-day use.

I passed on the dock (both the regular and keyboard varieties; I have enough charging desk space without), the USB power adapter (I've got plenty left-over from iPhones, along with Apple-branded cables), the VGA adapter (my existing component cable should work for the moment, but it's something I'll likely pick up at a later date), and the MobileMe membership (do I even need to justify that decision?). None of these seemed compelling enough for immediate pre-order. Interestingly, Apple does not seem to offer any engraving options for the iPad yet, although I'm guessing they will at some point.

So what did you end up ordering? Did you go for one of the overseas ordering work-arounds that have been posted around the 'net? What size did you buy and why? Did you pick up accessories? If so, which ones did you decide on and what motivated that decision?

Reportedly, you can replace iPads for $99 if the battery fails. I'm relying on this fact because hopefully it means someone at Apple realized the batteries will/could be an issue at some point. I'm hoping that means more refurbs, sooner, and at a better price (hopefully!). Maybe for you it might mean getting your iPad switched out under the cover of 'dead battery.' Good luck!

i ordered the 16gb wi-fi model. i have a 32gb iphone that has about 7gb available. so you'd think i would need more than the 16gb iPad. but then i realized that i'll still have my iphone with all my music on it. so i won't use the ipad as a music player much, which frees up 16 of the 25gb on my phone.

that leaves only 8gb to load up on the ipad and then the other 7-8gb for new apps/documents/movies.

i went with the wifi model, because i want to have it with me for a trip i'll be making towards end of April. depending on how often i find myself yearning for 3g data access during the trip, i'll decide on whether to sell the wifi model to upgrade to the 3g model.

I pre-ordered the 64GB Wifi model, for delivery; I figured with my iPhone 3G I could pass on the 3G model. I know that Jobs said there would be no tethering, but...there's always a way ;-)
I tried to order right after 5:30am, but the Apple Store page had yet to update when I logged on...so my order actually went through a little before 6am (Pacific time)
The only accessory I ordered (for now) is the dock connector to VGA, as I plan to get the iWork apps and would like to be able to use it in class for presentations. I'll likely add a dock and maybe the power adapter before long, though (and at some point, perhaps a wireless keyboard.)
I can't wait for it to get here!

64GB Wifi+3G, my old iBook is dying after many years of use, and I decided that I would go this route instead of a new MB.

I got a 16 GB wi-fi only, because my 16 GB 3Gs only has about 3 gigs of stuff on it, so I figure 16 GB will be enough for me (I stream most of my music through Pandora and last.fm). Also, as my school and home both have wi-fi, and I have my iPhone, I don't really need 3G. I also got a case.

Clicked the confirm button at 7:31 central time.

I bought the cheapest one, and by using my AMEX, my warranty is doubled to two years. No need for Applecare (yes, AMEX will replace it instead of fix it, but that's ok. For my iphone, they just sent me a fat check).

I am looking for a person to work with on developing an app for very specific medical documentation. If one of you is out there, contact me at sales@sohowifi.com

I'm waiting. I'm never "that guy" but lack of a camera (AR) and gps (uh for everything) really threw me.

But a "killer ap" or two might push me over the edge.
