Iris suspends development, users can upgrade to Acorn for free

Fortunately, however, Iris owners aren't completely left in the lurch -- Drayton highly recommends Acorn, and anyone who currently owns Iris will be able to get a free upgrade to that app. Sad to see that a quality image editor is calling it quits, but the reasons seem legit and the transition should go smoothly. If you own Iris, watch your email for directions on how to upgrade, or contact Nolobe yourself.
It's not all glum news from Nolobe: the company has a great deal going now for its flagship FTP client, Interarchy. Commemorating the two-year anniversary of an office-gutting fire (well, maybe it is kinda glum, now that we think about it), the Interarchy Fire Sale offers a steep discount on the app for the next week, along with discount codes for several other leading indie apps (including Acorn). The $19.95 Interarchy 9 licenses are valid for free upgrades to version 10 (now in beta), which adds up to a savings of almost $70.

I never actually used Iris (my image editor of choice is still Pixelmator), but the one-window image editor released a few years ago...

Hangon, saving $70 when one buys Interarchy 9 now as you'll get the free upgrade to version 10 when it arrives? What price will Nolobe be asking for the 10 version? I do use the 9 version for quite a while now and I prefer Interarchy over Cyberduck. But via MacHeist I also got Flow - that little program also does the job I want it to do.
It will mostly depend on the upgrade price to keep me on the Nolobe train, and to a probably smaller extend the addition of features.
The problem I had with Iris is that there was a previously published app with that name (web cam utility) and the NoLobe dev did not fix the name issue or work out a solution with the other Iris' dev.
Undoubtedly, other users got confused when installing the webcam or image editing Iris apps over each other.
I also think the space for yet another low-end image editing app was fairly limited. Pixelmator and Acorn occupied that zone for perhaps a year before NoLobe Iris came along.
agree. when I ran update software it would tell me about the other iris.
the app wasnt that strong when compared to pixelmator
