Chaos Rings trailer looks awesome

Just yesterday, we heard about this new Square Enix RPG due to come to the iPhone this year, and today, not only do we have official confirmation, but a first official trailer as well. And boy does it look great -- over in the console world, Final Fantasy's creators have been saying that they can't make them like they used to, because the newer HD technology just makes old-school artisanship tough to do. But a platform like the iPhone, with its built-in limits on graphical fidelity, might be just the place for the old-school vibe to live and thrive.

3D characters on 2D backgrounds? What appear to be turn-based battles against bosses and summons? A story featuring emo-haired heroes and J-pop ballads? Boy are we in. The Japanese version says "Available soon on the App Store," but we'll keep an eye on the other stores as well and let you know when this drops.

this does look great! reminds me of FF VII. good to see Square giving the iPhone more than just ports (even though FFI & II are well reviewed)

As a droid user, this is the first thing that's made me wish I had an iPhone... Here's hoping that Square ports it....

Yawn...
Sorry, it's kinda funny because it just looks like everybody was just smacking each other Across the face for about three minutes. What a trailer (sarcasm)!

I sure hope those aren't the sound effects that ship. Kinda weak. :)

Also was funny to see the guy run down the middle of the screen, then abruptly turn a sharp angle to cross a bridge.

It's your loss if you've never played a PSX-era Final Fantasy and can't appreciate the style of gameplay this is harkening back to.

It's too bad the only reply to this post is spam because I'm really looking forward to this one too. The pre-rendered backgrounds and lack of voice acting make me feel nostalgic.
