Educational institutions: Get your discounted iPad 10-pack

MacRumors reports that Apple has begun offering iPad 10-packs to educational institutions at discounted rates. The discounts are relatively minor: $20 off of each iPad in a set of 10, or $40 off per iPad if they are ordered with AppleCare. The iPad 10-packs are shipped in a single box, which eliminates individual packaging. In addition to the ten iPads, the packs contain ten power adapters, ten USB-to-Dock cables, and one set of documentation. Currently, only the WiFi models are available in the educational 10-packs. Like the iPhone, there are no iPad educational discounts currently available to students or teachers.

Many believe that the iPad can revolutionize the tools for education. This educational 10-pack could be an early sign that Apple will aggressively pursue the iPad as an educational tool.

The iPad 10-packs begin shipping in April.

This is such a great resource that you are providing and you give it away for free. I love seeing websites that understand the value of providing a quality resource for free. It is the old what goes around comes around routine. Did you acquired lots of links and I see lots of trackbacks?

$20? Hmm... I guess thats the savings cost of the packaging material? Okay, that's fair.

I am glad to catch idea from your article. It has information I have been searching for a long time. This looks absolutely perfect. All these tinny details are made with lot of background knowledge. I like it a lot.

Keep on taking action!

Your theory is wrong. Take this as an example. A radio. The oil must have been drilled in Iraq (plastic), the metal must have been probably been mined in South Africa, the electronics in China, and all of that must of been assembled by some 15 year old in Mexico. And don't forget the shipping costs for all that. It should have been about $50-$100 instead of $15 bucks. Someone needs to learn Busness 1000.

This really doesn't mean much. Any education customer can work with Apple and get great deals on product. You order direct from the Apple Store if you are ordering in quantity and you are getting screwed. Apple will give you great discounts if you work with them and let them help you build a proposal.

If Apple really wanted to infiltrate the education market, they should have sold the iPad to educational establishments for very little more than what it costs to manufacture. Chances are these places are going to use the iBooks store and the App store -in moderation, admittedly- anyway, so they'd get their money back in the long run. It strikes me odd that they're being so tight when they have such a massive opportunity here to become a dominant player in a massive market... Especially one that has a knock-on effect with all the others (kids grow up using iPads; they use iPads in the future. Kids take iPads home and their parents play with them; their parents buy iPads...)

If my school ever gets any tablets you can bet that it's going to be a locked down, spyware-filled 150$ Dell machine which regularly crashes and on occasion explodes.

Even the thought of having a well-built, sexy tablet being used in schools is laughable.

You clearly don't see the potential in the iPad.
