Apple's iPad ad goes viral

Apple's "Meet iPad" ad, which debuted during the Oscars, became the second-most viewed viral video ad last week. Michael Learmonth, writing for AdAge, points out that "Apple has had a YouTube channel since 2005, but only recently started using it. In the past, they'd focused on driving views on Apple.com, but for the iPad, they allowed the video to be embedded across the web, and views were distributed across 100 different placements."

Those 100 different placements totaled a cool 2.5 million "Meet iPad" ad views last week, according to online video measurement firm Visible Measures. The only ad that beat "Meet iPad" was E*Trade's popular "Milkaholic" Superbowl ad, which had increased views due to interest from Lindsay Lohan filing suit against E*Trade claiming the ad was a parody of her. "Meet iPad" was produced by the TBWA/Chiat/Day ad agency.

And the fact is there. People always complain all of the Apple products about their limitation and then walk to the stores and buy them.

I can see iPad fitting in with my life. I can create a portfolio of my design/photography work, go to potential clients and wow them with my slick presentation. It'll also be great for following cooking recipes in the kitchen and surfing the web on the sofa when I just can't be arsed to get the 17" mbp out ;-)

Because, if he were disabled as a user then he would just come back with another nick. Now, if you leave him be then he keeps posting, but at least you know it is him...

I was one of the people who reserved judgment on the iPad when I first saw the keynote. I'm now sold, 1000%. Why? It's the computer for EVERYONE else. It will change computing forever, I guarantee it. I also think Apple will eventually change the look of the OS, and will distinguish it from the iPhone. But right now? They want the stranglehold that 150k+ apps gives it on the marketplace. Once they have 50k+ iPad specific apps, the look will change, I think.

Why am I so sold? Because regular people (read: non-techies/geeks/etc) want one; just like the iPhone.

No—not in the slightest, although I understand your comment. The stranglehold to which I was referring was for Apple to ensure the product becomes a success. Apple needs to get off their high horse, actually; competition is healthy. I'm very much looking forward to MS's Courier, and for a while, the JooJoo Pad. The HP Slate though, is not gonna make much headway, I think.

I want the iPad to succeed so others learn how to compete in this space.

the reason ipad will be great is because there are so many developers making great software for iphone and now the ipad.

all the short comings of a full fledged os will be old news once desktops stop getting all the great software..

Look at the last 2 years how many Great programs were developed for the desktops... not many. And what is there is just version 4,5,6,7 etc of what was developed pre apple iphone.

Everyone will flock to this device because well, we know why.
And once the software catches up (5 mo.) it wont matter what else is better because it already cornered the market.

Look how long it took myspace to fall off the top of the social ladder, when there were soooo many better solutions out there.

@ Jordan, how do you know what people want or expect? How can you be so sure? Perhaps you should start your own company since you seem to have all the answers. I am not saying apple got it right with the iPad but they have a good track at dellivering devices people will buy. You on the other hand... all you do is talk

You know what, I just got it.

Custom, 100% touch interface.. That is why the iPad will be a HUGE success for apple. Windows doesn't stand a chance in this space for that reason. Android on the other hand....

@Jordan: OK, 'fess up. You've never looked at the video demonstrations of the iPad user interface, have you? You just saw the stills of the device and the homescreen and decided "big iPod Touch - FAIL." Because if you *had* watched the keynote video - specifically, the section where Phil Schiller is demonstrating the iWork apps - you'd understand that this is NOT just the iPhone OS slapped on a tablet device. It's certainly lineally descended from the iPhone OS, but it's redesigned with new interface elements that leverage the screen real estate of the iPad compared to the iPhone.

Android, now - Android on a tablet is just Android from a smartphone writ large. Maybe that's what you were thinking of?

You are confusing OS and applications here.
The OS is virtually unchanged to the iPhone/iPod touch version. The only difference is, that there probably will be a separate shared files folder which can be synced and accessed by all apps.
The only thing that does make a real difference is the apps. And the apps you are talking about are not even included, you have to buy them separately.

I wouldn't go so far to call it a fail .. but I am pretty disappointed with the iPad .. it could have become a fantastic product, but it is just to limited for the specs/pricepoint.

And what's plainly visible in the thumbnail for the only higher-rated video? That's right, an Apple aluminum keyboard. :)
