Obvious: Apple fans who own Apple products can't wait to buy the iPad
This is probably one for the obvious department, but we'll share it with you anyway. An NPD study released last week says that device awareness for the iPad is already very high (no duh), and that it's highest among 18-34 year old current Apple owners (double duh) with $100,000 or greater income. So basically, Apple fans with money to spend can't wait to buy the iPad. That, we believe, is the legendary triple duh.But wait, there's more. The reason all of those current Apple owners want to buy the iPad? "Liking the Apple brand." They want to buy an Apple product because they like Apple products. The multitouch screen tied for biggest reason to buy, and NPD also says that 18-34 users are interesting in actually playing music and accessing the Internet from the device.
To be fair, those numbers are all cited as "awareness" -- only 9% of those surveyed said they were "extremely or very likely" to actually buy one. Price was cited as a major concern, and many of them, as we reported the other day, said they'd be just as happy with a netbook anyway.

I have no desire to get one, and I use only Macs. I just don't see a fit for it.

That, plus all the extra's, you need to make it useful, will take the total cost up over $600 & that is ridiculous in this economy.
i can't believe that more people aren't complaining about the low storage numbers that apple included. Really reminds me of the Apple Tv which initially
had less than desirable storage.
Let the actually use complains roll on in.
meh.
I want something that fits in my pocket, and I already have that covered.
Screw the iPad, where the hell is the MacBook Pro refresh!?
March 30 2010 at 1:34 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replywhen are we gonna start to see some tv coverage of the morons sleeping outside of Apple Stores/Best Buys so they can be the first ones to buy this useless thing?
I'm a big apple fan, own two macbook pros, an iphone, and an apple TV, but I'm barely interested in the iPad at all.
Maybe they'll get it a little closer to right the second or third time around, but it's severely lacking at the moment. It's nothing but a blown up iPhone/iTouch Hybrid, and anyone who thinks different is simple kidding themselves.
I'm excited about the next iPhone way more than the iPad.
I'm not sure if I classify as a fanboy or not. I love Apple products, their industrial deign and the OSs they've produced. My pain point has always been price. I can be hard to justify even a $100. MacBook when I cam get a $300 Acer and still get on Google Docs and do what I do. However, I do own a Mini, we have 3 iPhones, and an Apple TV I'm in the minority in loving.
I have pre-ordered my iPad as a second household book reader if nothing else and am anxious to see the apps developed for the device, just as I was for the iPhone when all my geek friends were dis'ing it.
Oh and by the way, there are lots of 20ish-34 year olds making just over $100,000 in IT or Software Engineering, if nowhere else.
wow .. amazed to read so many reasonable comments here. Over the past weeks I was under the impression everybody got caught up in that iPad hype ...
I am swiss (not really, neutral towards Apple), and I am not interested in an iPad. I have an iPhone and a netbook that covers all my mobile needs.
And also, beside everybody cheering about the price, glad the article states that still most people think that the iPad is way overpriced. Obviously there is some sanity left in this world (I willfully skipped over the fox news article comments to not get that little hope smashed instantly again).
T.
My boss, who's 29 going on 12, preordered one because "it looks tight, dude." Yes, he does still live with his mom.

How does it make you feel?
Why don't you make it comfortable on the coach whilst I listen to you?Mmmmmmkay.
I just find it funny that he can't justify his $700 purchase for any reason other than that it looks cool.
