Artist sells iPad art to buy an iPad

This is the kind of thing that's just clever enough to work once. Artist Andrew Fulton really wants an iPad (as do most of us), but he doesn't have the money to get one (likewise). So he's decided to try and sell some iPad-related art to raise money for his iPad. For as little as US$20 (just a duotone drawing) or as high as $125 (a full-color strip), you can commission and get an original piece of iPad-related artwork, drawn just for you. He's got a sample page of drawings, and while taste is always subjective, I have no doubt that he'll be able to get the iPad he wants.

Funny little idea, and maybe if you're willing to subsidize another iPad purchase and like his style, you can pick up a nice piece of original art for yourself. In the meantime, if anyone needs any iPad-related fiction, I'd be happy to put down a few thousand words for, say, $499 ...

I admire the artist's gumption and originality. Like the guy who sold each pixel of a million on a Web page for $1, I can appreciate the creativity; and odered one as well. Bravo.

Got one.

Went for the $65 duotone comic strip. I will use a scan of it as my background for my iPad. So yes, twits, this is a proper article - human interest and makes money for the subject of it. What more do you want, the moon on a stick?

Mr. Fulton is very talented and his effort to raise $$ is the same way Michelangelo and Raphael survived. Trading art for dollars is a very noble and courageous way to make a living. At least art work lives on after we die and you certainly can't say that about the staffing plans your boss wants for next Monday. LOL

I'm pretty sure Michaelangelo and Raphael survived off pizza. And being radical.

I've ordered two, I wish I had the forethought and creativity to do something similar, well done and I'm sure he'll get his iPad before I get mine in the UK.

Really?? I find it hilarious that people who have no interest in the iPad feel compelled to have to take the trouble of clicking on the article and then commenting about it as well.

So maybe there should be an option for everything you don't have interest in, on this site and every other site? God forbid the site has articles you don't have interest in. Give me a break. If you can't find a use for it, then don't read an article about it...period.

All of these haters crack me up. No interest in it, but have to keep reading every article and making negative remarks. What's funny is, I would like to see the percentage of people who make these comments that actually end up owning an iPad, when they realize how awesome this device actually is. When the Apps start rolling in this thing is going to shine, big time.

Obviously a clever move as anything with "iPad" in the title is gonna get covered these days ..

Still waiting for the "my turd looks like an iPad" story.

I'm hopeful that TUAW will soon provide a "No-iPad" news option for those of us who still can't find a use for it...

You know what I learned to do as a (very) young child? Not read things if I don't want to read them. It's simple. If you see an article and it has "iPad" mentioned in the title, *YOU DO NOT HAVE TO READ IT*. Got it? Good.

You don't have to READ the article, and then proceed to make ridiculous and stupid troll comments in the article.
