Dear Aunt TUAW: Did Steve Jobs gift me an iPad?
Dear Auntie T,Hi! First time writer. I was just curious if anyone else was receiving an email like I received. My first instinct is to say it is fake and/or an April Fools' joke. However I want to be sure. The entire message is below.
From: Steve Jobs
Subject: Congratulations! You've won an iPad!

Darling Kris,
Want the good news or the bad news first? The good news is that exercise can really help with depression. So you're going to want to take a nice long walk when I tell you the bad news: yes, undoubtedly it is an April Fools hoax. That e-mail is about 50 words too long for a legit e-mail from Uncle Steve. Had he written it, it would go something like this.
Free iPad. Come get it.
Steve Jobs
Sent from my iPad
It also wouldn't have been sent from "Apple Corp". It's "Apple, Inc." these days. That's not Uncle Steve's e-mail addy, either. Nor would he have misspelled the word "and" or neglected to capitalize "Saturday." Some things are just too good to be true. This is one of them. However, a good habit of exercise is a gift that keeps giving for your entire life.
And don't forget to eat plenty of roughage!
Love,
Auntie T.

actually it's sjobs@apple.com and has been for years. Next, you'd most probably get a phone call from one of his aides letting you know this was coming along with the tracking number for it. And last but not least you'd never receive it on APR1 if it was real :) Hope you did not click any links in the email. If you did, even on a Mac, good thing to do would be to scan for malware. Yes Macs do get them too.
Love,
Mike
Huh. Imagine if the reader fell for the email and went to the Apple store...

If it came from something like @youshouldhaveknowbetter.com then shame on you.
Did anyone else get that Apple Corp. thing? As in "apple core" Or am I reaching here?
April 01 2010 at 11:58 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyApple Corps is The Beatles company. And, yes it is supposed to sound like Apple Core.
Apple the computer company is Apple Inc.
Apple once sent me a $100 gift card for no reason that I could figure out.
I got an email that it had shipped and a few days later it came in the mail.
I used it at the local Apple store with no problems.
Oh no. :(
