First Look: Foto Brush Pro on iPad

One of the more popular genres of iPad app appearing close to launch time seems to be artistic or photography tools. The video above shows Foto Brush Pro from Bobby Software running on an iPad. The app has been available for iPhone and iPod touch under the name Photo Brush for quite some time, and is now expanding to fill the vast pixel space of the iPad.

The video shows how the app can be used to paint blank canvases or photos, add text, and otherwise enhance or create art. The bigger screen is definitely a benefit for this kind of app -- having a little extra room for tools and gestures helps a lot, we'd imagine. As of the time this post was published, the app was not yet available in the App Store for purchase, so be sure to check back often if you're interested in this creative app for iPad.

I was intrigued, and although I don't want to be negative, that looks sorta remedial. They do have type, something many of these drawing apps on the iPhone lack, so I'll give them that... But why would you not use a keyboard to input text? And why would you put "Our Apps" on the menu bar?

Maybe Adobe will finally get the hint from this, and excellent programs like Brushes, Layers (what I use now instead of Brushes), or SketchBook and make Photoshop for the iPhone OS something useful and competitive.

Based on the video the app seems clunky and limited. I would like to see a comparison between this app and other painting apps like Brushes, which is now also in the iPad app store.

Anyone else notice that the video is all messed up with the voice over? Talks about Text over the brushes demo...

The audio and video don't seem to match up.

Man that is probably the worst user interface I have seen on the iPhone/iPad - truly bad.
