I apparently was at the iTunes store when the apps became available. I had been searching for Pages, and--like before--it pointed me to some music. A minute or so later the iPod Pages app appeared.
Now I have to wait and wait and wait. . . . .
I will try to be more patient this time and wait before buying any new apps. I would buy the iPad cousins of my favorite iPhone apps anyways.
From previous experience, the first popular apps in a category may not be the ones that are most used. As the dust settles, the real winners will emerge and it will be easier to decide.
Also, I would buy the Numbers app first. I think it can be used as a multipurpose app for many things like to-do lists, personal databases, converters, special calculators, finances, etc. Numbers gives sufficient formatting tools to make such home-brew app sheets, look like a real app. I can imagine having a default spreadsheet with multiple sheets for each type of utility.
Look at Things. Not only do they want customers to buy another version, they want to charge more for it. At least I give credit to MLB and Filemaker for keeping their apps the same price as the iPhone equivalent. CulturedCode is doubling the price of their iPhone app. So that's $50+$10+20 if you want to use their products and the damn things still don't sync OTA.
April 01 2010 at 4:45 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyTo be fair, Things is an application developed by a small company who invest time and innovation (read:skills and ideas, combined) into their app development. To charge what they want for that app is their right, and I encourage them to charge as much as the market supports because their application is BY FAR the best task manager I've tried on the Mac and iPhone (and I've tried a lot). Mac users, of all people, should understand that if you want quality you pay for it - otherwise these people will go away and invent something else instead. This is why we all came here, right? If we wanted the cheapest option, that would be elsewhere. If this price proves unreasonable, they will lower it I'm sure. Personally I think it's very reasonable for a fantastic application (assuming it is - it would be nice to have app trials, although that's not Cultured Code's fault).
OTA sync will be very nice, though, I agree on that....
Now the app store is featuring iPad apps

April 01 2010 at 4:13 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyActually I think that is something the developers should consider: if you already own the iPhone/iPod version of an app there should be a discount when you additionally buy the iPad versionâ¦!?
I guess that's just wishful thinking thoughâ¦
The iTunes terms and conditions have changed as well. Don't know if there's anything worth checking, I wasn't bothered to read it!

April 01 2010 at 3:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think the store may be smart enough to not show iPad apps if you browse on the iPhone or iPod Touch; I'm on my iPod Touch and my version of Double Solitaire for iPad is not showing on the search.
April 01 2010 at 3:12 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down Replybdo, I seem to recall reading that indeed the store will be hiding iPad apps from iPhone and iPod visitors.
April 01 2010 at 3:21 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI visited the UK AppStore whilst my iPhone was connected, and hundreds of iPad apps showed up.
I can buy iPad apps but can't get an iPad until the end of April!
Please Navigon, give us a free/low-cost version for iPad before iPad is released for sale in the UK.
