iBooks app now available in App Store
I think I just heard Jeff Bezos shaking in his reading jacket.

IBookstore and iBooks app for the ipad finally available in France. Only free books are available at the moment though.
May 26 2010 at 2:17 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm with you! It would have behooved Apple to have the iBooks app available for both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. It would make it more simpler for us with an iTunes account to use our funds there to purchase an e-book from the iBookstore instead having to use other numerous funds to buy an e-book from B&N, Amazon Kindle, etc. I like one-stop shopping for my iPod and I would have been more apt to consider an iPad if they had made the iBooks app available for all Apple's touch devices!

(and for the record, all iPhone OS 4.0 beta users will be able to start using iBooks app immediately when beta is available)

April 02 2010 at 1:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHm. The lack of PDF support is ... troubling. Has anyone announced an iPad-enhanced PDF reader yet? (I've got a LOT of PDFs of role-playing games, and the allure of using the iPad to carry those around is tempting - but if they aren't really supported...)
April 02 2010 at 12:02 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyPDF is natively supported by the iPad as it always has been with the iPhone so all you would need is to email them to yourself (which I could understand may not be a great solution for most people, myself included) or get a file manager which I expect will pop up in the app store in no time. And I did spot a $1.99 pdf reader whilst browsing through the store yesterday.
What I want to know is why they cant release ibooks internationally just without the store until they get the proper rights. At least that way international users like me could use the sync non-drm books feature that was a nice suprise.
So I can buy DRM protected books from Apple that can only be read on the iPad, or DRM protected books from Amazon, that can be read on... well, most any popular platform. If I have to put up with DRM, I don't see any advantage to buying from Apple.
April 02 2010 at 11:41 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyYeah right now Apple is kind of at a disadvantage. I would be happy to switch my future book purchases to iBooks. I read books on my iPhone and Mac, and yet I can't buy iBooks, but I can buy Kindle.
I don't need another device to carry around -- even if the iPad was free -- and this exclusive iPad-only app only forces me to continue to give my money to Amazon instead of Apple.
You can use it with non-DRM'd epub format books. You are not locked into only buying from the ibookstore. You can also use Stanza or other alternative readers. So what's left to hate on, lil' hater?
