iPad devsugar: Moving beyond your 50 promo codes

iPadpalooza is in full swing. If you're like a lot of devs, you're quickly moving through (if not past) your 50 promo code limit per application version. If marketing now is important to you, don't forget that you can gift applications through iTunes. After all is said and done, this will cost you 30% of the price. Apple will return 70% of the cost back to you at the end of the month because you are basically buying from yourself while making sure that Apple gets its cut.
Gifting applications offers a reasonably cost effective way to expand your marketing beyond complimentary promo codes. Keep this option in mind as the iPad App Store gold rush gets underway.

Are you guys listening to yourselves? You have to buy the application you MADE YOURSELF in order to give it to people. I hope some other devices with open stores make some traction to force Apple to open things up a little.

It's not hurting Apple anymore than if you'd just made the app free to begin with, except it lets you spread it out enough to garner some attention while still making you and Apple money.
Plus, you could really build some customer loyalty and publicity i.e. Since you bought App X and Y (and won't shut up about it) we'd really like for you to see App Z (and hopefully you won't shut up about). Here is a free code. Or, Sorry we screwed up, we fixed it, but want to give you this token of "We're sorry!" to let you get our other amazing app you don't have yet.
Sure, you could keep pushing updates to refresh your 50 promo codes, but that's irritating for both the developer to do and the users when they keep seeing updates that read "Minor bug fixes".
I believe there is a limit to how much you can gift each month. Like $100 or something.
