Inside the 5th Ave Store & some retail tidbits

We're inside the 5th Avenue store and the fun continues, with stacks of iPad boxes on the counters, plenty of cases and accessories... and customers, customers, more customers. Gallery below.

Some things we know now re. the retail situation:
  • Yes, there was an all-hands call this morning, at least here at 5th Ave.
  • No, there wasn't a ban on employees bringing their iPhones with them, as far as we can tell.
  • Yes, the retail staff didn't get to touch iPads until this morning, so for the first couple of hours they will be catching up.
  • Yes, they are carrying small blue chamois cloths to polish fingerprints off of the display units. Frequently.

Really Jordan? You don't understand why Apple hires teenagers? Just in case you've been living under a rock, who do you think the digital natives are in our society? Who is more comfortable using technology more than any other segment of society? Not to mention, they're willing to work for $10/hour, they want the hours, they're enthusiastic, and they're easy to mold (in an Apple Corporate .

I'm an Instructional Technology Specialist and I've been working with teenagers for almost 30 years. They're the first adopters and completely unintimidated about working with new technology. The Digital Immigrants would, for the most part, need weeks of hands-on experience and would not exude the confidence of a Digital Native when presenting brand new products to the general public.

Really? Apple Store Fifth Ave. is one of, if not the highest grossing Fifth Avenue store, which means it's one of the highest grossing stores in NYC, which probably means it's one of the highest grossing stores "in the world" (per square foot), and you don't know why they do what they do? Is that a joke? I really don't mean to be condescending or offensive, but...huh?

If it doesn't appeal to you, then that's your choice, and you are entitled to it (truly). But do you realize what collosal successes the Apple Stores have been for Apple Inc., partially because they have young hip friendly kids working at their stores? Why WOULDN'T they do it the exact way they are doing it?
