iPad launch first look: Things for iPad
Cultured Code has released the iPad version of their classic iPhone task list app, Things. The new Things for iPad (US$19.99), as you can see in the video above, is absolutely gorgeous on the new Apple platform, and benefits greatly from the larger layout. I've personally downloaded the iPad version, synced my tasks, and the app seems like it's a natural part of the iPad.
We'll be publishing a full review of Things for iPad soon. In the meanwhile, feast your eyes on this 34 second video showing everything you'll be doing to keep yourself up to date on your work and personal tasks.

I created a video review for Things. It should help you decide for yourself whether the app covers the features you need and if the experience of the nice interface justifies the price for you. Basically, I tried to get as close as possible to giving you the experience of actually using the app since there unfortunately is no trial or lite version.Â
Hope it helps.

Their pricing is messed up too. Buying the desktop client should automatically include the iPhone/iPad versions at no additional cost.
These guys totally got bought out by the company. How much are thru paying you boys ?
April 04 2010 at 4:19 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWith deep regret I must add my voice to the unsatisfied majority. Things had such great potential it's a shame to see it abandoned.
A to-do app that costs $10 and cannot somehow figure out Push after 2 years is obviously not being actively developed.
We can now see what they've been working on. Their iPad app. They gave up on OTA syncing and Push and made a money run. Understandable really. Their user base is undergoing a huge churn rate so those users must be replaced to keep the company from joining Now Software I bankruptcy court.
I've got the Mac and iPhone apps but I'll be avoiding the iPad version. I've had enough and the iPhone app is no longer even synced to my device.
I hate to call Developers out publically - but there it is.
It is odd that TUAW editors seems to really like CulturedCode in spite of the mess CC has made on OTA sync. It would be interesting to hear from TUAW editors on this particular issue. Why does CC get a pass on this, while the somewhat controversial freemium ngmoco model has been discussed very openly and fairly, I might add. Why the silence here on CC?
I think CC is an interesting story because they were obviously trying a different more open approach, and then for unknown reasons, it went a bit sideways. But they still try to get the benefit of being a little different. Let's face it, $20 is not much money and I don't overly regret buying their apps. But they are not, imho, nice guys
Anyone thinking about paying $20 to these inept crooks should, first, take the time to look around the web and see how many people bitterly regret buying their apps. You won't find this info on Cultured Code's own site because they ruthlessly delete any comments on their blog that aren't fawning praise and, famously, they deleted their entire forum because so many customers were having problems and they didn't want new prospective suckers/customers to see that.
Their screenshots always looks good but, trust me, this lousy time-saving app will waste more time that you would think possible.
There will be truly great GTD apps on the iPad - for instance, an iPad version of the far superior Omnifocus is on the way - but this dishonest idiots simply don't have the skills to make an app that, you know, works. They know that, they know how many unhappy customers they really have, but they will keep on charging money because they can and because the Apple blogs have no incentive to look out for ordinary users.
I own Omnifocus and I own Things; after trying to work with Omnifocus for a few weeks, I moved to Things and have never looked back.
I don't understand the level of venom in your posts, but your opinion is not supported by the thousands of users who like Things and rave about it all the time--myself included.
So you think $50 for Things + $10 for the iPhone app is a worse deal than the $100 that Omnifocus Mac + iPhone costs? Omnifocus has been bug-ridden from day one, overly complicated, forces users to work in its way rather than their own, and totally inflexible. I like the company, but I can't stand Omnifocus.
But I don't slam the company; these small developers work hard to produce their software; I suspect CC is probably a very small company, and I will continue to support them.
@Bob
The "venom" comes from the users who are -- quite frankly -- mad at being deceived by CC who promised a year and a half ago that OTA sync was coming "real soon now", then never delivered.
Things is an application with gtreat promise but the developers have demonstrated zero follow-through.
@Steven Sande,
Culture Code is not really a good model or app company. I don't understand why do you want to promote for them?
They have promised the features for iPhone version 1.5 years ago, and still not delivery the feature. It was a $9.99 app on the iPhone. The same price u get HD version of Pages, keynote.
They don't bother to delivery the cloud sync (over-the-air sync) which means you will need to sync over wi-fi manually every few hours.
Now they are trying to rob people again for $19.99???
By the way, did I mention they shut down the support forum before because customers were angry about they are being lazy and don't update and fix the app for over a year?
and recently, their crew member threatened the users on the forum they he suggest to shut down the forum again since users were not happy. (What a good way to interact with your users?)
@ian fairchild,
"Epic fail from the GTD company that just can't get it done." This is so funny, and i have to write this down. Culture code is really a epic fail.
You already said all that stuff once, and it was lame the first time.
Omnifocus, which is convoluted, impossible to use on a daily basis, and ostensibly does the same thing--is $80 for the Mac, $20 on the iPhone.
Things is $50 on the Mac, $10 on the iPhone; syncing works great for me, has since day one.
If you guys don't want to use it, who cares... lots of us who manage huge projects use GTD apps on a daily basis. I've been using Things since it was released on both Mac and PC, and I love it. It's always worked great, is well worth the money they charge, and I'll be adding it to my 3g iPad when it arrives.
You can't compare a product like Snow Leopard, which sells millions of copies, to an app that might sell a tenth of that at best. Pricing a software product has to be based on the user base. IMO, Cultured Code delivers value for what I've spent--more than does Omni, whose Omnifocus is overpriced and not easy to use--and which I also bought.
