The iPad romance is over for Jeff Jarvis
You've lusted after something for months. You've imagined it in your daily routine, showing it off to your friends (with appropriate oohs-aahs and jealous looks directed your way) and feel like once you've obtained this item that your life is complete, you have obtained the Holy Grail, and you couldn't possibly want for anything more. Then you wake up the next morning after that purchase, roll over in bed to gaze upon your beloved tech, then realize that you've made a huge mistake. This is what happened to media blogger Jeff Jarvis and his iPad.
"After having slept with her (Ms. iPad), I am having morning-after regrets. Sweet and cute but shallow and vapid," Jarvis tweeted to his nearly 40,000 followers on Sunday. Business Insider reports today that Jarvis is planning to return his iPad and has spoken with several other people who also plan to return theirs. If that's you, you've got 14 days since purchase to do so, and you'll be charged a 10% restocking fee as well.
Now that the iPad has been out in the wild for a few days, some are getting to that "morning after" spot where they realized they leaped too quickly. Business Insider's Henry Blodget theorizes that the iPad's best days, like the iPhone's, will come in a couple of years when the purchase doesn't mean having to choose whether or not to pay your car loan for the month or not.
The iPad isn't for everyone. Fellow TUAW blogger Mike Schramm wrote an excellent piece on why he didn't buy an iPad, many of his reasons matching my own. Had I bought an iPad, I'm willing to bet that perhaps I'd be in the same spot as Jarvis was in on Sunday -- not because of any lack on the iPad's part, but because with my MacBook, iPhone and Kindle, there's just not a place for it in my tech life at the moment.
For those of you with iPads, are you having second thoughts as well now that some time has passed?

You chumps stand in line to buy any garbage that Apple craps out, then when a better version comes out six months later, you bitch about it. You deserve exactly what you get.

April 12 2010 at 2:20 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyWhen we have expectations sof ar high about something it is normal to be disapointed. I don t have one... But liek stated in many places and iPad isn t made to replace a laptop or an iphone/ipod touch not even a kindle.
It is a new product, i think people just need a little more time with it w make it "evolve" and really LEARN what it is for me.
I also believe this product will change our lifes.

well I am in the camp that is returning one. Cool device but I don't need it. Would rather upgrade my 3yr MBP to a new one when the refresh happens. And for phones, just because you aren't holding an iPhone, doesn't make you a fanboy of something else. I had all 3 iPhones and am quite happy with my Nexus One. iPhone 4.0 wasn't groundbreaking and I don't miss it one bit. Between the Nexus and a new MBP, don't need much else.

Love it.
I am using it in preference to iPhone and MacBook Pro for a number of tasks.
I am in no way an Apple guy but I have to say mine is here to stay. Really do not see myself getting the 3g version unless all my bills are magicly paid do not want or need another monthly bill. I think the Ipad will fits in very nicely.
April 08 2010 at 4:54 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI may return mine as well, I bought two ipads, one for development and one for my use, and I do find myself putting down my ipad quite often and grabbing a real laptop, to do things I couldn't do with the ipad, or just to type up something quicker. I love my iphone but I do not see a place for my iPad in my tech line-up.

He was set on returning it because he didn't get it and then he got talked around. I wouldn't be surprised if he kept it, but I could really care less. Not sure why this is even news on TUAW, slow news day?

Haven't used my iMac since I got my hands on my new iPad.
Netflix and ABC are very promising. They need to fix the crashing issue.
Although the Netflix app crashes less than on my HD Tivo.
I'm finding my iPhone apps are being updated to iPad apps daily and grab them the second they're out.
I purchased the 32gb model.
I'm not surprised by this. Jarvis is a Google mouthpiece and he was looking for the best way to trash the iPad and Apple. He's just pandering to his audience.
