Breaking: Apple reports 450K iPads sold to date

So much for the sneaky approach. Steve Jobs reporting now at the iPhone OS 4 event that the company has sold 450,000 iPads as of this morning. That's a little lower than estimates, but Apple's still selling plenty. Jobs says they sold 300,000 devices on Saturday, and that Best Buy is experiencing shortages already.

iBooks is also doing well, with 250,000 e-books sold on Saturday, and 600,000 books sold in the store total. And the App Store is rocking, too, with 3,500 iPad apps out already, and a whopping 3.5 million downloaded. Pretty amazing for a first week.

"That's a little lower than estimates"

Lower than who's estimates? Apple never released any sales predictions that I'm aware of, and saying that iPad sales didn't meet up with analyst estimates is like saying that the lottery numbers didn't come up the way the Psychic Hotline predicted.

your right - is tuaw just going off of investor estimates? the only estimate that i recall apple aiming for was was 1% of the phone market, which is 10 million sold of the original iPhone by 2008.

if the post launch day rate keeps up, they could clear one million by the 20th. before the alleged 3g release day of the 24th.

not so shabby for a 'toy'

and if the ipad gets the 4.0 update the new features could make the time even shorter cause those new bits make it even more viable as a business tool.
