iPhone OS 4.0 Secrets: Faces and more in Photos app

Looks like the iPhone OS 4.0 update will bring ever more Desktop-class features into the mobile sphere. An anonymous TUAW tipster has sent in the following photos, showing several new features in action.

These include Faces for iPhone, e-mail resizing options, and a kick-ass assets editor that allows you to choose multiple items for deletion. Faces technology was first introduced on OS X in iPhoto 8.0.2. It uses face detection to distinguish faces within pictures from other objects within images.

The pictures in this gallery represent just a few of the new features hidden away in the 4.0 update. We can't wait to see more. You know how to contact us.

i hope that when they mention delete its not the current iteration. I bought the ipad for many reason's and i'm almost totally happy with it but i was expecting to be able to better manage my photos on it. I.E. being able to import my bulk photo library (or fresh photos taken while away from home using the connector kit) and then pare it down through the iphone os. I can't believe i still need to go into my existing library at home (separated into folders by year) and basically copy all my "share worthy" photos into a separate folder before syncing with itunes. So i hope they mean i will be able delete actual photos off the devices not just ones taken or saved from within.

I assume, like on the iPad, that a mac with iPhoto has to do the heavy lifting, and the iPhone (again like the iPad) can *display* faces info, not detect or embed.

Yeah, the "kick-ass assets manager" is already there in OS3.1.3

Can we get the faces feature to work if the iphone syncs with a pc? Either the iphone itself taking care of it or perhaps reading metadata from third party apps like picasa.

It won't... Currently, Notes, Calender, and probably something else can't sync with Window's. That's ridiculous. Photo's probably won't get special features in Windows and they will show up as empty in the iPhone.

Not getting it. You can already select multiple photos and share/copy/delete. Difference being?

Yeah, the select multiple images for sending copying or deleting has been a feature for a long time. The user might not have been familiar.

Can't you already? Click edit, tap a bunch of emails, click delete. Are you looking for something different?
