Apple ditches "Rate on Delete" in iPhone OS 4
MacRumors is reporting that Apple has removed the "Rate on Delete" feature from the upcoming iPhone OS 4.0 release. "Rate on Delete" is a pop-up notice that appears when a user deletes an app from their iPhone. The user is able to select a 1 to 5 star rating for the app or to refuse rating it by tapping the "No Thanks" button."Rate on Delete" was first introduced in iPhone OS 2.2 as a way for users to easily rate apps without having to access the iTunes Store. The feature has been widely decried by app developers; many believed that it contributed to biased negative reviews since the "Rate on Delete" reviews were only coming from users who deleted the app (and hence were presumably unhappy with it) and not the users that chose to keep the app on their iPhone.

Yeah. While I've got nothing against the rate on delete itself, it -is- a pain that the easiest way to rate a app was to delete it. There should have been a option right in Springboard, perhaps a double-tap while you have the apps "shaking" to pop open a rate window.
I have plenty of apps on my phone that I like, that I should rate, but find really obnoxious to rate from the phone and I'm rarely at my desk to do it from iTunes.
Still there, this afternoon. I don't mind it a jot.

April 11 2010 at 7:30 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIts about time it was annoying having to go through this process every time i deleted an app. Isnt it obvious if you delete an app its because you dont want it and hate it? Wow talk about some commen sense

April 11 2010 at 5:46 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyHow about "Rate on Anniversary"? After a specific number of months on the device the popup shows up.
April 11 2010 at 5:33 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI think that's a very good idea!
I agree the bias is there toward a negative rating with the current system. There's always a few exceptions but I imagine Apple sees the data - most deletes end with a low rating otherwise why not keep a five star app?
Rating after a set date would be a great time to reflect and score. Hopefully one wouldn't entirely forget about a year-old app.
It'd have to be done in a way that wouldn't annoy people 365 days later with popups asking them to rate. Maybe something through iTunes rather than the phone itself?
This is what Ive thought of the whole procedure from the beginning. I didn't understand why someone would rate an app 5 stars on delete. It's about time.
April 11 2010 at 5:14 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGood thing, but they could add a section in the AppStore application to rate the installed apps.
April 11 2010 at 5:05 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI understand why debs hate that option, i've given quite a few of 1 star reviews to crappy apps thanks to that option. Still, hope apple replace it with an easy way to get trace the app back to the AppStore, searching the app to review it is too cumbersome.

April 11 2010 at 4:19 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyIf they keep doing as usual, it's going to be free for iPhones, and cost $10 for iPods.
