International iPad release pushed back to "late May," pre-orders start May 10

This will come as a disappointment to our international readers, but it seems that Apple has pushed the international iPad release back an entire month.

The iPad's UK page used to say "Coming late April." Today that was changed to "Coming late May." The good news is that Apple has set a pre-order date of May 10th in the UK, Canada, France, Australia and Germany.

In a press release today, Apple said that the iPad's US popularity is to blame for the lag: "Demand is far higher than we predicted and will likely continue to exceed our supply over the next several weeks as more people see and touch an iPad." Apple also said they sold more than half a million iPads in the first week.

As above, look at the positive side by the time it reaches
any non-American country there will be software updates that will be (hopefully) incorporated in the newly shipped ipads , and also as above the Dollar is getting weaker against various other currencies so the cost may go down which probably won't happen, shipping may be a problem if flown in due to the volcanic ash problem in Europe :(

Just to add that in iTunes, I have three panes, one showing "iPhone, iPod touch and iPad Apps", the next pane is "iPhone, iPod touch Apps" and the third pane reads "iPad Apps".

Each pane is already populated with apps in the three categories, all purchased through the UK AppStore.

I have been eagerly awaiting the release of iPad in the UK, and have already downloaded several iPad-only apps from the UK AppStore, along with some universal apps, which are already on the iPhone.

I am now trying to get an iPad directly from the US and I am assuming that if/when I sync my US-sourced iPad with my UK-based Mac that it will do so without any problems.

The only apps I do not expect to have until the official UK launch will be the iWork trio and iBooks.

I sent this tip in to TUAW as soon as I saw it and low and behold 20 minutes later there is an article with no credit to my 'accidental stumbling before anyone else by chance skills'. No fair! lol
