New iPad 3G orders to ship by May 7th

Apple has quietly changed the shipping date for the iPad 3G in the online Apple Store. The new shipping date is listed as "by May 7th."

While this may be a slight disappointment for those who were waiting to order their iPad 3G until they were released, it appears that those that have previously pre-ordered the iPad 3G can still expect to receive theirs later this month. Several readers have informed us that pre-orders are still scheduled for "late April." Other readers indicate that they are seeing credit card charges for their 3G iPads, suggesting that those are almost ready for shipment.

Last week, Apple delayed the international iPad release by an entire month to "late May" with pre-orders starting on May 10.

Finally got the email every body talking about. I got scared for a moment and kept refreshing my inbox for that email. Now Apple should get a solid date instead of just "late April". I think the shipping date is going to be 9 days earlier which is what happened to the iPad WiFi version. 3rd of April and pushed to 12th when more people placed their order. I think late April is 28th and units will start arriving on Saturday May 1st.

Any word on in store pick-up...? Would it be available by the weekend of the 7th.. Sellin' my 32gb wifi model for the 3g version. Family vacation startin' the 9th.. 3g was goin' to be key for this trip..

Could it be that the icelandic ash cloud is delaying shipments from China ? FedEx is missing 300 flights a day according to the news

If they ship from the same place as before, the flight path is across a different ocean. The WiFi orders left China, and passed through Anchorage, AK before settling in a warehouse in Kentucky.

Apple must know the actual ship date for the early orders of the 3G iPad. I ordered two of them the day they went on sale. It would be nice to have an actual shipping date by now.

I know apple loves it's secrecy, but that shouldn't apply to my order! :)
