iPhone OS 4.0 SDK Beta 2 available for download

Good news on the iPhone OS 4.0 SDK front. Apple has just posted a brand new beta, ready for you to download. The new beta comes complete with firmware for each of the supported devices (namely the iPhone 3GS, the iPhone 3G, and the 2nd and 3rd generation iPod touch).

As usual, the details of this release remain behind the NDA wall, so you'll need to scoot on over and check them out yourself. Apple will be releasing 4.0 into the general iPhone population this summer. An iPad version will debut in the fall.

The servers typically get slammed whenever a new SDK is released, so you may want to wait a few hours if you encounter any problems connecting to the developer site.

Good luck and happy developing!

Update: Minor bug in the OS 4.0 beta 2 firmware discovered. Workaround: Take screen shots via Xcode.

Is the new beta even worth it from beta 1? Also, after using beta 1 for awhile these are the following things that I found buggy-

-Alarm likes to work at random
-When typing in google in safari, i cant see my typing and the typer will be in the middle of the screen.
-photos likes to quit
-can't back up via iTunes (annoying if I want to restore to beta 2, then I have to reorganize everything.
Thats about it for now. One fix I would do though is have a way to select which apps get put into the multitasking bar once open, that way every app you open isn't sitting down there. Either that or have a way to multi-select apps sitting in the multitasking bar to close, that way you dont have to close them individually.

It would appear that in the update section of the app store, the 'update description' for an updatable app is displaying the 'app description' instead.

Played with beta 2 for about 5 minutes. In the process of restoring to beta 1. Buggy yes, but if your as bad of a speller as I am. worth a few restarts.

Here's another work-around for the camera being broken: Go into the messages app and use the camera button there to take your picture, then send it as an MMS to your email address.

I'm staying away from Beta 2, so I haven't tested this, but it should avoid the problem of the camera roll not working correctly.

Your supposed to use the Organizer within Xcode to update your firmware, I realize you can also use iTunes but I'm pretty sure that iTunes will be updated before 4.0 is publicly released and likewise I'm sure 9.1 does not support 4.0 fully.

Once you've upgraded to 4.0, is there a way to downgrade back to the stable 3.1.3?

Yes but I would wait for it to be released because it's very buggy as of beta 1, I downgraded to 3.1.3 and I'll likely keep it that way until beta 3 or 4 if they have it.
