Russian President Medvedev loves him some iPad

A few weeks ago we heard how Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg was running his country from an iPad while stuck in New York thanks to the Icelandic volcano eruption. Now Russian President Dimitry Medvedev has an iPad in his hands although, if our Google Translate results are anywhere close to accurate, it was lent to him by his aide Arkady Dvorkovich.

Medvedev had the iPad with him at a recent meeting of the presidium of the State Council, the Council on the Arts, and the Council for Science and Technology. At the retreat, Medvedev expressed his support for electronic book readers, although he told the press that he found paper books "much more pleasant." Medvedev commented that he initially found the iPad "impossible to read," but later warmed up to the device to the point that he downloaded the classic Russian novel "A Hero of Our Time" for his son.

Office of Presidential Affairs Minister Viktor Khrekov did caution that the government was not going to order iPads for officials immediately, noting that a common comparison of prices and quality would be performed first.

For those of you who understand Russian, you can view a video of Medvedev and his (borrowed) iPad here.

Medvedev is a well-known iPhone user, so I'm sure he would have no problems using an iPad. He was probably disappointed it did not have his favorite apps.

I noticed the flap too. I'm shocked that everyone doesn't think the Apple case is great. As an admitted cheapskate, I purchase nothing at Apple that I can get elsewhere for less, like cases. But the case is great. I have had no issues at all. I've read the case holds dirt, mine doesn't and I have it in a dirty backpack. The grippy material makes one less paranoid about dropping it and makes the device feel lighter. No scratches on the glass either. The case has elevated the iPad experience for me.

Looks like it has a black strip at the top, might actually be a 3G iPad.

You're actually looking at the Apple iPad case—that's just what it looks like. I've got a Macally case, and it's pretty spectacular. My only complaint is the leather band.

Hey, those Russians are pretty smart. Only a douche-bag wouldn't love an iPad. All the Russkys will be carrying iPadskys eventually or at least some pirated knock-off which is something they do so well.

If only those damn things wouldn't cost twice as much here ($1300 for the 64gb/wifi model) :). As any Apple stuff, though.

Funny thing is that Norwegian Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Russian President Dimitry Medvedev met in Norway this week. They obviously agree on the iPad and now suddenly on the borders in the ocean between the two countries - a 40 year old dispute.

Go figure:-)
