Found Footage: Jon Stewart scolds Apple over the Gizmodo stolen iPhone fracas
Leave it to Jon Stewart to put things into perspective. In this segment from The Daily Show, Jon satirically cops to being an Apple user since the 80s and takes Apple to task for stealing the evil empire crown from Microsoft in their handling of the Gizmodo lost iPhone incident. After Giz gave back the iPhone, the cops busted down its editor, Jason Chen's door. "Don't they know there's an app for that?" Say what you will, I think Jon nailed it.
Watch the full clip after the break.

By excuses, you mean facts of the case?
It's pretty hard to make a rationale argument against Apple being "the man" if you define "the man" as any corporation who does something you don't like.
I like Stewart a lot, but this rant was bogus and conveniently left out/misrepresented the facts that contradicted his point. But of course, if anyone points that out to him he'll just hide behind his "I'm just a comedian." defense.
Funny how none of the excuses address the part about Apple becoming "the man" while Gates tries to cure deseases. I thought that was the best part.

I don't mind him doing it, but for anyone to take him seriously as some sort of news is ridiculous... he does crack me up sometimes though, and like someone said, he's one of the few who can simultaneously piss me off and crack me up (and I think a lot of times he's going for that kind of visceral reaction, its more memorable).
April 30 2010 at 5:17 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyThe major gloss-over of Stewart's spiel: "...and Scene. So, the guy from Gizmodo somehow gets ahold of the phone, and..."
In comedy, it's not required to pay attention to every real-life detail the way it would be, say, On The Record.
Why spoil a good story (or bit) for the lack of a few facts?
The phone was stolen. Compounded by being bought from the thief, by Gizmodo, who mercilessly amplified the theft into the stratosphere.
Very few people can still make me laugh even when I disagree with them. Jon Stewart is one of those people. Funny sketch, even though I think he missed a lot of details
By the way, my wife and I were in the audience for a taping of The Daily Show in New York. It was a great time. I highly recommend it.
Let's see...
He forgot to mention that AFTER Apple told them to return it, gizmodo took it apart and posted the pictures on their site.
He said that Apple said that it wasn't their product. When did they say that?
Also, you can't just sell something the you 'found'. If I find your wallet, I can't just turn around and sell your credit cards and ID. I can't even sell the wallet.
Jon Stewart should get his facts straight. He's a very funny guy, but he's way off-base on this one.

Gizmodo had their fun but they are in trouble. Jason Chen's computer equipment was taken because in the Law's eyes it might have trade secrets of Apples on it.
The REACT group specializes in Trade Secret cases and this is right up their alley. It's pretty much ALL they do. The idea that Apple had to say "GO GET THEM" is pretty silly. I'm sure as soon as the details started to emerge they were on it.
I'm no Apple apologizer, they do lots of stuff that drives me crazy...but I think they had very little to do with what is happening.
