A less-than-graceful keynote

We've seen the keynote in 60 seconds, and we've seen the "only the adjectives" 'approach before. Here's a slightly less complimentary way to show off the keynote, though, with all of the "ums," "aahs," and other interjections that popped up during the iPhone OS 4.0 keynote a while back.

Far be it from us to make fun of Mr. Steven P. Jobs, of course, but something funny like this actually shows off how good he really is at doing it right. Seeing him up there on stage with his turtleneck and jeans, all enthusiastic about whatever "magical and revolutionary" device they've cooked up this time, is half the fun of a new Apple product announcement. If Steve were any less eloquent and smooth than he is, you might end up with something like this: a guy desperately trying to put a few words together about his new product. It's not nearly as effective, but it's much funnier.

I'm not out to bash the man personally, but he's just never been taught. It would take only a few hours for him to learn behaviors that would eliminate (and yes, people can speak with ZERO non-words, it's not that hard) all of this. I know because I teach people to do just that.

I blogged about Steve Jobs some years ago with these points in mind: http://www.millswyck.com/blog/index.php/2006/01/14/steve-jobs/

It's amazing the perception difference when someone can deliver material -- ANY material -- articulately. Steve has an awesome product, a fantastic reputation among that audience, and relates to his audience well. His team does a great job of creating visuals with impact and points that matter. Delivery is not his strong point.

"Delivery is not his strong point?"

Sorry, but that's a ridiculous statement. Millions of people hang on every word of his keynotes. I think a large part of Apple's success is Steve's ability to give good keynotes and get the tech world excited about things.

You can pick on little things about his keynotes all you want, but I doubt you've had so many people watching any of your keynotes.

The truth is, no one really cares about the use of "non-words" or about people speaking with perfect articulation. People like to listen to people who speak like human beings, not perfect robots. Most of the time when I hear someone speaking with perfect articulation, I suspect that they are trying to swindle me, because they care more about honing perfect presentation skills than they do about what they're speaking about.

From Orphanage to Ashram to Billionaire... hmmmm, ahhhh maybe we should try to be more like "The Steve" rather than try to mock him.

Steve may be one of our country's best true role models yet people are always trying to knock him down or say he is doing something wrong. Do any of you youngins even remember the Gil "Cyberdog" Amelio Incident.

Really call us fanboys or whatever it doesn't hurt much... you guys should embrace the "Steveness" and create something game changing yourselves... the world could use a few more good "Men".

And before any of you wise asses say not finding this funny means we lack a sense of humor... chime in on Sundays TUAW Talkcast and we will have the first live comedic smackdown on Talkshoe.... in the words of Ivan Drago "You Will Lose"

the man is recovering from a major illness, cut him some slack will you? If that's all you've got to pick on then I think you lack imagination. You think you could present so well?

Oh by the way... I'm a PC

Deja Vu.

You can do this same treatment on ANY non-teleprompter presentation by ANY person in ANY situation.

ANY.

By doing it, you sure show how original your humor mode is.

The last guy to make fun of Steve now is with the guy who lost the 4G iPhone prototype... in the middle of nowhere.
