iPad could produce the quickest climb to the $1B mark

Yesterday, we reported on an incredible statistic: If iPad sales continue at the current rate through the end of June, Apple could realize US$1 billion in revenue. Today, Yankee Group's Carl Howe puts that number into perspective, noting that the iPad "...will likely take the crown for the fastest consumer product growth to the $1 billion revenue mark in history." That is, of course, if current sales trends continue.

If it happens, it will have taken place in less than 120 days. Howe compares the iPad's meteoric rise to the revenue arc of Google. As a company that's barely over 10 years old, Google produced one of the fastest growths to $1 billion in revenue and the fastest growth to a market valuation greater than $1 billion.

It's also important to note that these iPad numbers account for US sales only. Once international sales begin, Apple should really blow the roof off of this thing.

Judging by the fact they've ticked over to June 7th shipping in about a day I'd say they're selling fast. Anyone putting down money for a computer from PC World is out of their mind - the number of customers I've served who say "I'm buying a Mac because the PC World thing I have is rubbish" is very high.

Amazing If you think about profit to investment input ratio. With all the R&D infrastructure being already in place.Apple is perfectly positioned to be the King of the hill Of Slate/Tablet/Ipad (what do you call this technological genre?) for a Loooong time.
Any company willing to compete in this technological sector (genre?) might have to rescind themselves to be fleas on Apples Tailcoats For a loooong time.

I think it inconceivable that Apple won't hit $1 Billion in iPad revenue very soon.

2 million sold @500 = $1 billion. But the average selling price is above $500. If ASP was $650, then only 1.54 million iPads would need to be sold.

Shouldn't iPad accessories be included? I think folks are only thinking about iPads themselves. The attachment rate on iPads is probably pretty high: cases, docks, keyboards, keyboard docks, chargers, camera connector kits, AppleCare, VGA connector.

What about Apps? Shouldn't they count for iPad sales? Apple's own apss (Pages, Numbers, Keynote are top sellers) plus the millions of other Apps sold.

iBooks revenue - count it, too? Movies, TV shows, Music, Audiobooks?

Hey, this iPad is starting to sound like a successful product!

I agree with you in that they will reach 1billion faster than any other of there products. however, saying that accessories should count towards ipad sales makes no sense.

First, I didn't say accessories should be included, rather I posed the question.

One way of looking at it is to only include revenue from iPads sold.

The other way to look at it would be talk about iPad Platform revenue. All of Apple's revenue that is directly attributable to the iPad.

I must agree with you there.

What I find funny and have stated so many times, It amazes my how many analysts, armchair quarterbacks and pundits keep telling Apple and the Internets what Apple is doing wrong or what they should change to make the iPad a success.

"We need Flash, Camera, 4G, Real Os X, HFS or ZFS.... etc..." if Apple is doing such a bad job on the development of the anti-tablet-netbook-thingie they please tell us why is it selling like "Sex at the Bunny Ranch".

I hope Apple keep proving everybody wrong

It would piss the haters off even more if they stopped to think that the majority of Apple's astounding success with iPhone (and now iPad) has taken place during some of the worst economic conditions in most of our lifetimes.
