Found footage: Next-gen iPhone middle plate assembly

Just like the iPhone LCD leak back in March, SmartPhone Medic got their hands on another piece of next-gen iPhone hardware. This time they've posted a video of the middle plate assembly for the upcoming iPhone. SmartPhone Medic notes that the part looks identical to the one in the prototype iPhone Gizmodo bought, and from what I can see it looks like they're right. The visible black seams in the case are still there (yuck), and it appears that the SIM card slot has moved from the top of the case to the side, similar to the layout on the iPad. The metal plate fits perfectly into the iPhone front face and LCD assembly that SmartPhone Medic showed off in March, so it looks like that leaked part was the real thing.

Other than the "guts" of the iPhone (which won't see the light of day again until its official release), the only part SmartPhone Medic has yet to show off is the iPhone's rear casing. There's still no definitive word on what the material of that rear case is -- some have said glass, while others are saying it might be some type of ceramic. We should know the answer to that question very soon: WWDC starts on June 7, and almost everyone expects the next-gen iPhone to have its (official) debut at the keynote.

The SIM had moved to the side in the original leak. It was done that way to support a larger battery. I personally hate it, but whatever, I'm still ordering one.

I just think this scooping business has gotten too far out of hand. In the rush to get more hits or beat all the other sites to having the inside track is selfish.

I'm not sure if these guys realize they are possibly hurting a lot of people by doing this. Stockholders, Retail Employees, Manufactures etc can all be adversely effected if Apple decides to release this product late or not at all based on the reactions of leaks.

All for what extra clicks. If this sounds ludicrous back in 9/09 some jerk posted some misinformation about cancer drug researcher CTIC caused a 5 million share selloff plummeting the stock valuation by 20% costing the company billions of dollars and later coming back to the message board the thanks all the sheep for their selloff so he could buy the stock way under value. cheeky right... hell no what's wrong with you...

I'm a geek I get wanting the have all the latest ammo but not possibly at the cost of peoples jobs or investments. I say the "Me" generation as lost their way big time

Misinformation and early information are completely different.

Not to say that I would release the info if it happened to fall in my lap, but the situation isn't as dire as you make it seem.

Highly doubtful. It'd create even more seams and incongruous design.

i would really hope that apple irons out those seams before the launch, because it just doesnt seem like a real apple product with them. and i cant see them coming in any actual use so why even have them?

One theory regarding the seams is that they are to facilitate the expansion/contraction of the outer ring/collar because it acts as a heatsink.

Thinking about it, It's the most logical place for an exterior heatsink on a phone, because although the surface area is small compared to the front/back, it is mostly unobstructed when the device is in use.

Honestly, I think this is still the prototype and those seams are there to make it easier to get in and out of the thing. I expect it to be tightly sealed in final release, like the iPad.
