How to cook (and cut) with the iPad

Honestly, we kind of just wanted to post the video above (in which Jake Gyllenhaal uses Apple's magical and revolutionary device as a cooking board, and then decides to make it the main dish), but it turns out that you can use a kitchen utensil on the iPad to some success. Another British man got a 3G iPad from the States, and really wanted to use his Vodafone SIM on it. So he grabbed a meat cleaver, and got to cutting. He chopped off enough of the SIM card to fit it in the iPad's microSIM slot, and when he plugged it in, it reportedly worked.

That's a little nuts -- we definitely don't recommend that you foreigners a) start chopping up SIMs, and b) try sticking chopped-up SIMs in the iPad's card slot. But The Register claims it should work, since most of the body of a SIM card is just plastic handle rather than the important electronics. And who knows -- if you do break things, and brick your iPad in some way, at least you'll have a very sturdy glass cutting board.

I'm currently in Hong Kong. I've cut my local SIM with a pair scissors, using the AT&T as a template. Fits (and works) perfectly.

I hope that breaking up ipad with chopping sim is a joke, as long as you get it about right its absolutely safe (just dont chop core), sim card has always been same, from normal to mini nowadays and to micro, its just smaller.

Actually in finland operator is saying that people have to cut them (giving so-so instrucitons too) if we want to use ipad in here.

The whole Jake Gyllenhaal thing is eerily similar to Steven Colbert's "sneak preview" of the iPad the night before the release day.

And after having worked in the food industry for a long time, this makes me wonder if they sanitized the iPad before use...

I hate these kind of videos like Will it Blend?, Will it Microwave, etc....

I mean, why the hell are you throwing away an expensive piece of equipment when there are so many people in the world that are suffering because they have no money?

Do you think that money grows in trees?

This is the typical mentality of waste and this is why we have so many environmental problems!

Come on guys! Grow up!

The Jake Gyllenhall thing was not real. You never see the iPad...typical Jonathan Ross joke.

And bye the way who do you mean when you say "foreigners"? Depends where you're from…you for example are a foreigner to me!

Here's my main problem with this post -

Tempered glass is *awful* to cut on. Absolutely destroys your knives. Don't do such a thing to any cook's most important tool.

That aside, if you wrap it in bacon, I'm sure the ipad (as would anything) be quite tasty. *q:

There has been a lot of this silliness about the iPad going around, to the point where I think it is a bit pathological. OK, we know know we can do a lot of stupid things with a serious bit of equipment. But do we have to keep showing it?
