Apple promising fix for iPad Wi-Fi
We don't know when the software update will happen, of course, but Tuesdays are a good guess for the next few weeks. Hopefully we'll see a fix soon for beleaguered iPad owners still dealing with the problem. Strangely enough, Apple also admits that changing the brightness may actually help the problem. We originally scoffed at that one, since it sounded pretty hokey, but maybe voltages or code got mixed up somewhere, and that's what the software update is designed to fix.

My 3G ipad was working fine but one day suddenly only connects through 3G at home. This normally happens when I take the ipad out and come back home, it won't join the network which by the way uses an Apple Airport 802.11N router. All other wifi devices work fine including 2 iphones, an imac and a mac book pro + several pc's. This only happens to the wifi and the screen brightness did nothing, neither does a restart, neither does forgetting network and rejoining and neither does turning wifi off and back on. I've tried everything, I'm ready to call or better yet, go in to Apple and demand a new one. Steve Jobs needs to go back into the mental institution from which he surfaced....

May 31 2010 at 12:04 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMy wife has had her iPad for just over a week now and (knock wood) no WiFi problems. This is a good thing since it's a WiFi only model.
My problem is that we both have 2G iPhones and mine quit being able to find/connect to our Airport Extreme WiFi about a month ago. I've prowled the web, reset to 3.1, talked to Apple - all to no avail. Hers works fine on the same network.
Hope the fix is an iPhone OS fix that takes care of my problem. Very crippling!
I've had the same issue with my Mac book Pro. I never had the problem before. My first time in Germany with the computer. The router is German (Fritz) and for some reason they do not talk well to each other. The Mac Book works fine at free hot spots , so. It's not hardware . I believe there was as like issue with iPhones until the 2 nd big update.

I look forward to the update as I will be bring the iPad on a family vacation, but not as my only "computer".
I feel sorry for those having the issues.
I am one of the "few" experiencing issues... I can connect and stay connected to wifi at home, but at work every time my iPad goes to sleep it forgets the password. Weird, huh?
May 12 2010 at 8:07 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyMaybe it's just bad luck, but I have had problems before with being the first to buy an Apple product. That is why I wait until the bugs from the initial launch have been addressed.
Yes' I am getting an iPad. Now I am on a waiting list. I should have it soon and hopefully all issues will be resolved by then.
This MAY have happened to me a couple times. Turning the WiFi OFF and then back ON has always worked. This inconvenience was minimal and certainly not worth waiting to get my iPad. I've been thrilled with it and this "WiFi issue" didn't even phase me. I don't regret getting the iPad on release day.

Not enough testing obviously!
The analogy would hold if Apple knew about the issue and then did nothing for the next ten years.
