International Apple Stores to open early on Friday, iBooks appears and gone again

Apple Stores in the UK, Australia, France, Germany, Japan, Canada, Switzerland, Spain, and Italy will open one hour early at 8:00 AM local time this Friday as the iPad officially goes on sale. Delays and high demand could result in long queues for customers, so arrive early and wear comfortable shoes.

It's also noteworthy that iBooks and the iBookstore has begun to go live in these countries (that's a screenshot from the UK at right). Until now, users have been able to access the iBooks app (but not the store) with a US iTunes account; such circumvention is no longer necessary. Update: Readers report that iBooks was in the store, but is gone again!

Hold tight, ladies and gentlemen. You've only got 3 days to go.

Apple has been fiddling with the App Store last week and a half. Stuff has been breaking, then working, then changing.

For example, many of the App Store categories no longer have In the Spotlight or New and Noteworthy when using the App Store App on the iPad.

I still have iBooks loaded from before but have switched my account from USA to UK, now that the UK App Store is up.

The UK book store sucks, all its got is some free Gutenberg titles in there, I seriously hope Apple are intending to add some proper publishers in 3 days time otherwise its going to be embarrassing!

IBooks is definitely not up yet in France. I've been checking everyday since the AppStore went live on my iPad.

UK user here - it was definitely up earlier, now it's gone. Maybe it was a mistake and it should have gone live on Friday.
