Navigon cuts price of MyRegion version for a limited time
If you were about to buy one of the MyRegions Navigon GPS apps for the iPhone, don't press that 'buy' button just yet. In honor of WWDC, Navigon will make the normally U.S. $29.99 version just $14.99 from June 1 through June 11. That's a big savings on one of the premier nav apps. The MyRegions versions cover the Western, Central and Eastern U.S., so if you are going to buy, make sure you get the correct version. All versions include functions such as Reality View Pro, Google Local Search, Lane Assistant Pro, Enhanced Pedestrian Mode, NAVIGON MyRoutes and much more. Of course you get text to speech, and either a flat or perspective view of your route. All these features are described in detail at the links above for each version.
In addition, you can add other regions of the country with an in-app purchase. During the sale, additonal regions are $9.99 instead of the usual $14.99. Buyers can also add Traffic Live services (which will update traffic notices in real-time) for a one-time subscription cost of $19.99. If you buy, note that the entire U.S. will download to your iPhone, which is 1.4GB, so make sure you've got the room. If you go to add a region or two, you'll just unlock the data already installed on your phone.
We've given really high praise to the Navigon family of apps for quite some time. If you were on the edge, this sale should push you over. Wait for June 1 and reap the savings. The previous best sale price on the regional apps was $24.99, so $14.99 really is a bargain.
The apps run on iPhone version 3.0 or greater. They can be used on first generation iPhones or the iPod touch with additional GPS hardware accessories, and run on their own with the iPhone 3G or 3GS.

I was just about to buy it, today being June 11 the sale should still be on. But the price is back to $29.99 --- I'm pissed.

May 30 2010 at 6:48 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyJust wondering if the timing of this coincides with the new iPhone release. Is Apple finally going to allow turn-by-turn navigation in the native maps application that android devices have?

Especially considering so many people spent nearly $100 on this app and plenty of free apps can give us iPad versions. As a developer I can tell you it's really not that difficult.
Secondly, the MyRegions apps from Navigon do not have all the features of the more expensive full version. You can't get panoramic view, for example. Boo on them for that.
Thirdly, they have TERRIBLE customer service, they never answer emails or tweets. That's bad.
Having said that, I really like the software, I just wish they'd treat the MyRegions the same as the big brother that has all the maps. It was my impression I was buying the same engine just less maps.
I've tried NDrive and MotionX GPS. I can say MotionX is vastly superior. NDrive is very difficult to use; the User Interface feels more like a clunky GPS than an iPhone app. MotionX GPS on the other hand is very elegant and since it costs so little to try out there is minimal risk. Even though I have NDrive I am not going to be using it further; Highly NOT recommended.

[ http://bit.ly/cMt3SN ] I just got it as my first GPS App on an old iPhone 3G and it works so far as I would expect. $20-50 for an App is a lot to risk without a hands on demo. For as many storage as these apps need they basically cost you a fist of cash to empty your phone from music or video storage.
May 27 2010 at 6:42 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplySadly, I'm still torn between either TomTom or Navigon; if I can make a final decision, I can replace that stock GPS in my car for a more iPhone-friendly dash unit and sell it for quite a pretty penny.
May 27 2010 at 6:34 PM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyGiven the new price, I would whole heartedly recommend. I've driven up and down the East Coast, gone West and made my way back home with the App.
As long as you invest in a windshield mount, you'll a Navigon will always receive GPS signal.
Get Navigon, you'll be happy.
So I'm pretty pissed that I spent 100 beans on this app just 7 months ago.
Seriously! I want my $75 bucks back!
if you thought 100 was an unfair price, you shouldnt have bought it
