iPad traffic spikes on the weekends

That's one of the weirdest usage patterns I've seen, but it makes sense; people are coming home on the weekends and using their iPads while away from their usual work and home computers. When they go out on the weekend to relax, they're taking the iPad with them, and most interestingly, they're "learning" to use the iPad; you can see steady growth in usage during the week and more usage on the weekends.
That's a fascinating little packet of data about a fascinating new kind of computer.

Usage on weekends SHOULD go up, of course.
But additionally, I would guess that people are likely to PURCHASE their iPad on the weekends, too.
That's an extra dollop of spike-a-licousness for the weekends, hmm?
As far as I can see this makes the assumption that all usage is online. I use mine a lot offline, especially when reading a book.
I suppose one could theorize that offline use would track online use but as far as I'm concerned it is just that. Theory.
These are somewhat useless stats in my mind.
It's actually not really a weird usage pattern - most people tend these days to have newer technology personally than at work.

The IE usage spikes are particularly interesting...

Given the short time frame its difficult to make any long term conclusions about the data and the statement "you can see steady growth in usage during the week and more usage on the weekends" is so ridiculous it doesn't even warrant discussing. But i think it is fair to assume that a gadget like the iPad isn't going to get much use on a 9-5 Monday to Friday job.
Two biggest markets (UK and US) just had a long weekend so you can discount the most recent numbers where Friday climbs earlier than normal (people leave work early and start 'learning').
Indeed it is.
Those can be hints that we might be becoming a technocratic-potato-coach society.
as an ipad owner, i agree with the idea that people are "learning" -- i have had mine for two months, and i'm still adapting to it. i'm so used to having to sit in front of my computer for so many things, and almost every day i find that, hey, i could do that on my ipad... AWAY from my desk...!
i would be interested to see if (like this data hints at) traffic spikes at night versus during the day, too.
That's my own experience too which is a more to-the-earth explanation of those pikes.
Instead of that "learning" hocum, doesn't it make more sense that every week there's just more people buying and thus USING them????
