Found Footage: The iPad Comic

Adam Kontras, a comedian who claims to have the longest running video blog ever, has updated his comedy act for the iPad and is now The iPad Comic. Adam's act used to include four TV's that he interacted with. This was sort of video ventriloquism, timing everything perfectly so the screens would seamlessly speak with him on stage. He's now ditched the four TVs and changed his act over to talking with himself on an iPad. Getting the timing right must have been quite difficult, but it really works. His act is not only clever, but pretty funny. This shows a new use for the iPad: performance comedy. Adam is probably the first one to do this, but I'm sure he won't be the last since the idea is a really good one.

Enjoy the video. I thought it was pretty impressive and his delivery is just about perfect.

So, Just to get this straight, you have rehashed what you have been doing for the past decade (that is not funny, and has not worked) and have incorporated what did not work, and was not funny, and based off something dated and lame even by late 90s standards into a little retard TV. Great Job!

This is the natural evolution of Albert Brooks and the Speak-N-Spell. Catch the clip on YouTube.

Clearly you've yet to learn the definition of the noun "comic".

You know what, hit command space, launch spotlight and type in comic. Tap enter when the dictionary entry comes up and let us all know what the result is...

This also shows an old use for the TV... Nothing to see here, move along...

Well, aren't you clever? Funny thing, going through your posts, your comment history reveals you to be just another troll with D grade sarcasm. One of these days your mom's going to take away your internet privileges and then where will you be?

Hey - thanks for the comments! To answer some questions:

The handles I installed on the case of the iPad did make it heavy as I went through the bit. The biggest issue? The reflection in the iPad of the lights. Because of that one issue, it took over an hour.

On the mustache no mustache - these are long running characters (since 2001) as you can see here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nkUDh1zUthk&fmt=18 - for the bit however, I used make-up on the "Cam" character over a "5 oclock shadow" then darkened it for Adam so I could pull it off in one day. When I did the bit on CBS Adam was always first so we just shaved down every week. This is a little harder...

Well, however you managed it - it's genius! Perfect timing and an excellent twist on an old stand-up routine using the latest tech! Very well done. And the additional touches of "window glass" glasses and slicked-back hair to complete the illusion of talking to someone else made it even funnier.

I once did a spit screen video comedy bit that I posted online (Triggerstreet) and I received comments that quite surprised me, like: "I thought the one character was funny and quite a good actor but the other guy was a stupid jerk who couldn't act his way out of a Youtube video.
After initially feeling insulted, I came to think that the idea was actually quite effective if people responded that way (and that people were rather gullible).
Similarly here, I think the guy on the iPad is funny and cool but the guy holding the iPad in comparison is a real jerk.
Put differently, nice work!

The "iPad comic" (on the iPad) doesn't seem to have a mustache while the "iPad comic" holding the iPad does... Fake mustache anyone? ;-)

Pretty good touch, I'd say :)

I think he covered the mustache up for the video. If you look at the video closer you can still see the outline of the mustache.

Either way, pretty impressive. If only because you have to have your timing down or everything is screwed. Then would come the long walk of shame off the stage.

I bet in the time it took to rehearse that to perfection he'd grown it! lol. Even the editing of that video on the iPad would have taken more than the 20 minutes he claimed on the iPad video :P (this is getting confusing haha)

Or maybe, the iPad doesn't really weigh that much and there will be no change. I'm sorry but I have to ask, are you really that much of a sloth that raising your arm and holding it there for a few minutes is considered 'exercise' in your world? Wow.
