Documents To Go now available on iPad

Many years ago, I used Documents To Go with my Palm IIIe.* Now, the productivity suite for handhelds is available for the iPad. Just like that old version, this universal app lets you view and edit Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents (including those in the Office 2007/2008/2010 XML format). Unlike Docs To Go on the Palm, it's got the iPad's big, beautiful screen to work with.

It also takes advantage of iTunes file sharing and apps that use the "Open in..." feature. For example, you can send an email attachment directly to Docs To Go from within Mail. You can also open iWork files and access documents in your Dropbox, Google Docs, Box.net, iDisk, or SugarSync accounts. It's definitely nice to see the majority of a spreadsheet or an entire Word document at once, and desktop sync over Wi-Fi (separate desktop app required) is quite handy.

We've only had time to give this a cursory once-over, but we'll be spending more time with this suite. It's currently on sale for US$14.99 (that's 20% off), but that offer ends today. Pick it up and get productive.

We'll also be checking out Office² HD and the soon-to-arrive Quickoffice for iPad in the next few days.

*Anyone else remember the IIIe? It was a great little device.

I'm glad I bought this mug for the iphone when it was on sale a while back, free ipad upgrade. Like Shazam for the ipad, adopt early so you can check as many songs as you want.

But until iWork there was no way to edit docs so this was a great app then.

Before you give any money to this wretched company, remember they built a business out of advertising in non-Mac magazine, saying "Leaving the Mac? We can help." This douche of a company does not deserve any Mac user's support at all.

Do anyone know of a spreedsheet app for the iPad that allows you to sort or filter rows by column headers? It doesn't work in Numbers or Documents to Go.

But when will there be something that lets you edit Google Docs?

Well, that is part of what d2g is supposed to let you do - and it does - sorta - see my earlier post for some of the limitations

I am actually quite pleased with it as it's amazing how efficiently I could work with my Word and Excel documents. Since for presentations, I use Keynote anyway, I am not affected by the limitation of the slide presenter. Having integration with DropBox was also definitely a plus.

I had a IIIe! Loved it, cheap for an intro to the platform, and it got me hooked. Wound up with a IIIc, TRGpro, m505 and Symbol SPT1540, along with a decent job selling Palm at the time. Definitely looking forward to the all-around Office-related reviews, too.

I bought it, and am not happy with it.

The good --- Word & Excel editing is excellent & Cloud Integration is awesome (except doc's made with google's new doc format)

The bad --- Powerpoint editing is terrible. You HAVE to edit in outline mode, and most of the pre-existing shows I've tried to edited are actually not editable - well, the pre-existing content is not editable (just copyable????) - also, I get a BLANK error message all the time - it's terrible.

@H3: Can you please elaborate a bit on the limitations with Google Docs' new format?

I'm excited about What Office2 is doing with DropBox integration. The tight integration with DropBox allows you to take files from DropBox, edit them in Office2, then send them back to DropBox. It's awesome.

Except Office2 doesn't support editing of Office 2007 documents. Which is rubbish!

The major drawback is the lack of slideshow ability, have to stay with Keynote.
