If you've got a choice of stores where you can reserve your new phone, may we suggest you consider Radio Shack? Edible Apple reports that...

I pre-ordered at a Best Buy- 622 Broadway in Greenwich Village, about an hour ago. Fast, problem-free, and with an appointment to pick up my iPhone 4 on launch day. Doesn't get any easier.
The Best Buy salesperson was a genuine & knowledgeable iPod/iPhone fan, too. Ask for Alex at Best Buy, and tell him Kim sent you from TUAW!
Ok came from radioshack here an California and the 16gb white sold out 32gb white very low maybe sold out as well . I went @ 10 am wend they would take reservation and took more then an hour for it to get submited to radioshack head quarters I got my reservation with my AT&T number . I was the only one there at that radioshack but look like I'll be getting mine there. My Best Buy receipt is slightly different from the one above, as the item on mine shows "Presale Iphone 4 18GB white" so it's quite specific. But I'm not expecting it to be available for pick-up on the 24th. If it is cool, if not then I'll wait.

You don't need to buy anything to use this offer. You just take your old iPhone (or any other phone or MP3 device) to the Shack and they determine how much it's worth (up to the max amount listed on that URL above). If you take their offer, they give you a Radio Shack gift card.
The iPhone 3GS 32GB is selling on eBay right now for between $300 - $350, and RS will pay up to $301.33 for that model. The amount they ACTUALLY pay you depends on the condition and the RS employee who appraises it.
I may swing by the local RS today and see what they will pay me for my iPhone 3GS 32GB. I can post the result here if anyone is interested.
That URL I posted isn't working. Use this one:

Just talked to a Radio Shack manager. He was on a conference call about the iPhone at the same time he was talking to me. His explanation was that Radio Shack would be given 9500 units for distribution/sale on the 24th. That's 9500 iPhones to be divided up by all Radio Shacks across the country.
That's not very many. He said they could not take actual pre-orders but could put customers names on a list and give them some kind of PIN that would keep their place in line (nationwide?).
He also estimated a 1st Gen iPhone would fetch about $72 in trade-in value.
Radioshack is taking pre-orders here at 1:00 and will give $100 for a 3G and $200 for a 3GS. Just called them. Now calling the wife to convince her to trade phones with me since she is eligible for an upgrade and I'm not.

June 15 2010 at 9:28 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyI'm interested to hear more on the Radio Shack deal. I was gung ho to buy off of Apple this morning, but since they didn't have white available I held off. Glad I did now! Look forward to hearing more on the Shack.
June 15 2010 at 8:54 AM Report abuse Permalink rate up rate down ReplyCrap, I wish I would have read this first thing this morning. Ordered mine through AT&T's web site because I could not get onto Apple's web site.
My contract expires on 8/8/2010 but AT&T allowed me to keep my unlimited data plan at $30.00.
$18 upgrade charge + free shipping from AT&T.
As reported - the White Model was not available for ordering.
