Google Earth comes to the iPad

Google has released version 3.0 of Google Earth for iOS which brings full iPad support. The iPad version sports an update UI that makes it easy to switch between layers and select from your My Maps that you have saved under your Google account. Version 3.0 also adds full-resolution imagery for the iPad and a much-needed roads layer.

The iPad's large screen gives Google Earth a distinct advantage over using the app on the iPhone. Navigation and tilt are much easier to use and the app is much snappier overall. The large screen touch capabilities also makes it feel like you are holding a fully-interactive globe in your hands. The only feature I wish they would add is a "North-lock." It would be great if you could spin the Earth at a specific orientation without it rotating all over the place.

Google Earth 3.0 for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch is available for free in the App Store.

It's a great app for sure. Anything that involves the minds of Google and Apple is going to be a treat to use but there are still some things that could be added to make it even better on the iPad. The experience now is...near immersive, on the cusp fo something truly amazing. ANYTHING is better than using that silly pixel doubler!

http://sellingipads.com has added google maps to the ipad ~ pretty cool stuff. http://www.sellingipads.com/appleipad/ has the web's freshest wallpapers for the ipad.

Excellent. GE is one of my favorite "play" apps!

It looks like they added a new "My Maps" feature that's syncable via a gmail account. I've been waiting for something like that!
