iTunes 9.2 adds checkbox for automatic sync of new apps

We already told you about iTunes 9.2 being released, but there was a little new feature in there which may have escaped your notice. At the bottom of the list of apps that you can install on your iDevice is a checkbox to automatically sync new apps.

This has been the default behavior of iTunes, but you are now able to turn it off if you don't want apps to be automatically sync'd to your iDevices.

Thanks to TUAW reader Mike (aka MC SE7EN) for the tip. Mike also pointed out that the little iOS device images that appear next to the device name, identifier, etc, seem to be pictured running iOS 4, even if your device isn't. If you look closely you can see a folder icon. Well, Mike could. My eyes apparently aren't as good as his.

Updated 7:30 pm to clarify that this was the default behavior which now has an "off" switch.

Props to having Netshare app on your little list there.
Fingers crossed it works with iOS4!

I love how your screenshot has Netshare - the banned tethering app...

I have two versions of some apps, e.g. The Weather Channel, one for iPhone and one for iPad. The phone, properly, doesn't get the iPad app, but the iPad gets both.

In cases where there is ONLY an iPhone version, I do want it on the iPad, but not when both exist.

What's the best approach to this?

Yeah, this bugs me too. By default, the iPad gets any app that works on the iPad or the iPhone,. Unfortunately, I don't want any iPhone-only apps on there, just iPad or universal apps.

Apple needs a 'sync only iPad apps' box, or better yet, they need a way to bracket the apps in the pick list, in much the same way they do on iTunes App screen: iPad apps, iPhone apps, iPhone+iPad apps. This would make it a lot easier to check individual apps by compatibility.

I'm not sure if this is 9 or 9.2, but the album art in the bottom left corner now fades to the next track selected/played. nice touch.

Did anyone notice the genres in apps now? You can mouse over the icon and see all the apps for the genres. Really cool.

I'm glad to see that when you check the sync apps check box now doesn't try to select all the apps and fill your phone taking forever.

and I would like it to have a section or specification to know if the app was downloaded since the last sync...that way I don't have to go thru the entire list to find which ones I want to sync and which ones are not worth or not appropriate for the time

what is this?

A blog for people that don't download Apple things a week after they're launched?

My apps always install when I buy them through iTunes.

I actually liked this check box option as a way to STOP them automatically installing before I work out where I want them to go. (If at all sometimes).
