Reader reports: iPhone 4 shipping notifications

In the past 12 hours, we've begun hearing from readers who have gotten shipping notifications on their iPhone 4 orders. Keep in mind, just as with past overnight shipments of iThings, the shippers are scheduled to hold the phones for delivery so that they don't arrive before June 24.

Meanwhile, a long thread over on the MacRumors forums cites the trials and tribulations of some would-be iPhone 4 buyers who had their preorders cancelled unexpectedly. It's not clear exactly what circumstances led to the cancellations. In some cases, it may have been a missed checkbox on the order form agreeing to AT&T's terms and conditions; in others, it may be a complex billing situation (family or corporate plan, an unpaid invoice) that caused the carrier to flag the order for in-store handling.

Is your iPhone on its way to you already? Let us know below.

Thanks to everyone who sent this in.

My pre-order situation is similar, ordered on June 15th around noon, when I check the order on AT&T's site it says ordered on the 16th. Card was charged initially and went away (was an authorization charge, they're not supposed to actually charge the card until the product ships). And the status says "in progress", I called them and they said it's still going to ship and seemed to indicate many of the phones would ship today (a day before release???). He said to keep checking the site for updates. He also said that Apple had to push the in-store release to the 25th. That sounds kinda bogus.

Seeing several posts that pre-orders through Apple are already sending out tracking numbers make me think using AT&T to pre-order was a mistake, will have to go direct to Apple next time.

I'm still holding out faith that AT&T will get them to us tomorrow...*crosses fingers*

There's a video AT&T made for all of us still waiting for a tracking #

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ueKtv6OITjk

(found it on the AT&T forums http://forums.wireless.att.com/t5/Apple/iPhone-4-Preorders-and-Inventory-Videos/td-p/1954071)

feels like they're not going to make by the 24th for many of us. He mentions sometime later this week we'll get the shipping info email.

Question for everyone. I pre-ordered an iPhone 4 through AT&T but later that day they said it didn't go through, so I ordered one through Apple. The next day i get a confirmation from AT&T that my order through them went through after all. My question is if i activate the one from AT&T, since it's due to arrive first, would AT&T take the one sent from Apple as the return or does it have to be the one sent from them?

Ordered 2 phones late on the 15th. Received a 'ship by' date of July 2. Then this arrived early this morning:
"Dear Apple Store Customer,

You recently received a Shipment Notification email from Apple advising you that your iPhone has shipped.

This email is to confirm that your delivery will occur on June 23rd. Although Apple and FedEx tracking information may currently indicate a later date, you can check the FedEx website the morning of the June 23rd to track your package to your doorstep.

In the event that you will not be available to accept delivery on June 23rd, it may be more convenient to use our pre-sign delivery option by visiting our Order Status website at http://www.apple.com/orderstatus.

Sincerely,

The Apple Store Team"
thanks Apple Store Team! :)

After a LONG ordeal of almost ordering two iPhones only to have one order cancelled, then to having my first order change dates and then getting no confirmation emails or status updates, I almost gave up.

But today, it happened. I got a shipping status change and a UPS tracking number. Read my entire 2 iPhone 4 story and the rest of the iPhone pre-order disaster sage at my site:

I don't understand the perpetual limbo. I ordered from Apple after 16 hours of trying on the 15th, and my status is "not yet shipped", but saying "Delivers in June 24". It's now the 22nd. Seems like they either are about to ship or cancel.....
